Since we’ve become a family of four, life has been chaotic and exhausting. I’ve had to really dig deep sometimes and go to my happy place. D0 you know what that is for you? Have you ever thought, “What’s my formula to happiness?”
With a newborn who constantly needs my attention and a three-year-old who also constantly needs my attention (not to mention my house and my spouse), it can be overwhelming sometimes. But through the exhaustion and through the hard parts, there are plenty of things that make me smile. Sometimes the same things that overwhelm me bring me my greatest joy. So what’s my formula to happiness? It’s simple: my faith, my family, good food, and fresh air.
My Faith
One thing that centers me at all times is my faith. Reading a devotional or inspirational piece, leaning on my friends when times are tough, and saying lots of prayers always makes fills me up with goodness and gets through each day.
My Family
Of course, my family is my everything. Becoming a mother has changed me to my core; it’s the most humbling yet gratifying job I’ve ever had. When motherhood is hard, I just look at these two babes and remember that everything I do is for their good. My happiness is a direct correlation to theirs. There is no other love like theirs, and I am so blessed to have them, even on the hardest day.
Good Food
I don’t know about you, but food makes me happy. It also makes my entire family happy. And when the family is happy, Mama is happy.
Dinner time as a family is one of my favorite parts of the day, because it’s a time when we’re all together. Things are a little different now that we have a new addition to our family. It’s a little more hectic with a newborn at the table, but he’s been the sweetest.
One thing I’ve been doing to keep him happy and fed (and to help me out) is to supplement my nursing with Stage 1 Gerber® Good Start® Formula. I had to do this once we left the hospital because he lost a little more weight than his pediatrician was comfortable with. I give him a bottle of either my breast milk or formula when we’re in a pinch or out and about.
I love Gerber® Good Start® not only because it’s a brand that has been trusted for ages, but it’s also designed with each stage of your baby’s development in mind. The formulas are designed to bring comfort to tiny baby tummies, with complete nutrition for healthy growth, and are modeled after the proteins in breastmilk. And of course it’s easy to find in Target, too.
Because it makes my baby happy, it makes the whole family happy!
Fresh Air
When I’m feeling exhausted or a little down, one of my favorite things to do is grab my family and head to the outdoors. We’ve definitely taken advantage of the cooler weather and fresh air. We love to go the park or head out for a walk, and I always keep a bottle on hand for my little guy.
Stepping out for some sunshine always does the body good.
My formula to happiness is simple really: faith + family + food + fresh air. These things complete me, they nourish me, and they keep me going. It would be safe to say that all of these things make my family happy, too. And that definitely fills my cup.
You can take a small peek into our day and our formula to happiness in the video below.
How can you find your formula to happiness?
Today, think about three things that make you happy. When you’re struggling, where do you turn? What puts a smile on your face? What fills your cup? Write it down in an accessible place (maybe your Notes app on your phone), and look at your list when your tank is low. Gratitude is always the best attitude. And knowing how and what makes you happy will keep you going in a positive direction.
