If you’re a mama, you might remember your days in the hospital right after delivery. Your baby was tended to by nurses, you were carted in meals with desserts, and you had someone at your beck and call 24 hours a day. Before you knew it, you were at home with your hands full and meals to cook. Thankfully, most friends are more than happy to help with the food part. I know I was so thankful for anything and everything that my friends brought me and my family to eat.
Fast forward to you returning the favor. Your friend just had a baby, but what exactly should you take her? I know that the go-to is a casserole, but food sensitivities and food allergies can make some casseroles a tricky choice. Don’t make it too complicated. Make it simple.
You’re more than likely going to be making a trip to Wal-Mart for your own family, so pick up an easy meal for her family while you are there. Grab a rotisserie chicken, a pre-packaged side and/or deli salad, pre-made rolls, lemonade, paper plates, and a delicious, no-bake EDWARDS® whole pie. This meal is a sure thing. It’s easy to warm up or thaw out, and it’s balanced: meats, veggies, and carbs. And it won’t take up too much room in the refrigerator either. If you really want to be a doll, you could even cut up the chicken and transport it in a gallon size bag. Don’t forget the paper plates, too. You definitely want to make it an easy clean-up for your new mama friend. This is what her meal will look like.
Delicious.
I was ravenous the first few weeks after delivery, so desserts were my love language. Calories are not something one should worry about right after bringing a baby into the world, especially if the new mama is nursing, so bring on the pie! If you’re a busy mom like myself, these no-bake Edwards pies are the bomb dot com. You might as well pick one up for your family, too. There are several to choose from, but the Lemon Meringue and Hershey’s Chocolate Crème Pie are my favorite.
For a safe bet, choose the chocolate variety for your girlfriend. Because who doesn’t love chocolate?
This is the easiest possible meal to take to your friend with a newborn, and she’ll love you forever, I’m sure. Here’s an easy shopping list to make things even easier for you:
SHOPPING LIST
- rotisserie chicken
- deli veggie (green beans, broccoli, or other veggie)
- deli pasta salad
- rolls
- pre-made lemonade
- paper plates
- Edwards no-bake whole pie (this is gold)
As an added bonus, you can save $1.00 on any ONE (1) EDWARDS® Whole Pie by taking advantage of the Walmart EDWARDS Ibotta digital rebate (while supplies last). You’re welcome.
It’s a beautiful thing when there is a new baby in a house, and it’s even more beautiful when you shower your friends with love because of it.

I’m salivating…why have I never thought of this??? It’s so easy and so much better than a casserole. Especially if she has other kids because my kids won’t eat casseroles. I would’ve been in heaven if someone had brought me something like this! Great idea! Also, yes, I ate ALL the desserts after having my babies!

Thanks, Claire! Happy to share. This really is too simple to do, and I was so appreciative when one of our friends brought this to us. I love casseroles, but I was nervous about food sensitivities. I think this route is pretty safe. ;)
