Well, hello again! Sheesh. I meant to type up our weekend recap last night, but the rain and lightening show made me want to curl up under my covers and go to sleep. So I did. But more about the rain in a minute.
Our weekend was one of the best we’ve had in a quite some time. If you follow me on Instagram, a lot of these pictures should look familiar. However, I wanted to note what we did all weekend and how I gained five pounds.
It all started on Friday. The hubs was off for his usual Friday off, and we lounged around all day until my mom came to visit. While we were waiting for her to arrive, I snapped some pictures of my little miss outside. The forecast had said we would be getting rain all weekend, so I wanted to take advantage of the sun. (Turns out, it only sprinkled every now and then. The sun stayed out most of the weekend.) But Charlotte’s pony tail though. This little pony tail is the most perfect pony I’ve ever seen.
Once my mom arrived, we headed to dinner to one of our favorite spots, Willie’s. They have these beer-ritas bigger than a grapefruit, and this is probably where my weight gain began.
I had told our waitress that it was M’s birthday, and he was totally surprised when the whole waitstaff rallied around him with a sundae and sang him happy birthday.
Then, because my mom was visiting, she told us to take advantage of her being there to care of Charlotte. We ended up going to one of our local wine bars. So let’s recap my meals for that day: leftover lasagne for lunch, a hamburger, fries, and huge beer-rita for dinner. Just add more wine and a slice of cake to my food tally. For the love.
Saturday, it was M’s birthday! He went golfing with some buddies, and my mom, Charlotte, and I went shopping and out to lunch. When did this little girl get so big?
Of course I had a burrito, chips, salsa, and guacamole. Because my mentality was calories don’t matter on holiday weekends.
Charlotte loves the fountains in this town center, so I let her play for a little bit before it showered.
Once we got home, I made M his birthday cupcakes. Funfetti is his favorite.
When M got home from golfing, he enjoyed his Funfetti and opened a few gifts and cards. Then it was time to get ready for our big night out. For the record, I got ready in 45 minutes. This is what happens when you have a Nana to occupy the toddler. Showered, blow dried, hair curled, and makeup in less than an hour. That’s some sort of record. Thanks, Mom!
We decided to celebrate M’s birthday at Eddie V’s. It’s his favorite, and although pretty pricey, it’s so worth it for a special occasion. We enjoyed cocktails in their lounge where we listened to live jazz music. Once we were seated, we acted like we were about to go into hibernation and ate all the things: two appetizers, two entrees, two sides, and a dessert. Lawd. It was delicious though. We did leave with a to-go bag, because we couldn’t finish everything. Duh.
After we rolled our way home, we pretty much went straight to bed.
Sunday was another fun day. We had some friends of ours who live out of town stop by and then we all went to lunch. After lunch, Charlotte went home to take a nap, and M sent my mom and me to the movies. I don’t even remember the last time my mom and I had a movie date together. It had been a hot minute…or years. But who’s counting? We both loved Pitch Perfect 2. Aca-awesome!
And just in case you were taking food notes with me, I had soup and salad for lunch after having homemade banana nut pancakes for breakfast. Then I had popcorn, a pickle, and a large diet Dr. Pepper at the movies. But I only had two Funfetti cupcakes all weekend. I was really watching what I ate. Can you tell?
My mom went back home Sunday night, and then it was Memorial Day. All we had on the agenda was a trip to the grocery store. We fancy.
Before we went to the grocery store, Charlotte really enjoyed looking at the flag. And running around of course.
Memorial Day is definitely a day to stop and be thankful. I’m so grateful to live in a country where men and women have fought and died for our freedom. So grateful.
Then last night, the forecast was finally right: rain, rain, and more rain. Houston got hit with some major storms. It was a lightening show and the thunder was frightening. Tornadoes and hail were also a threat. But holy flooding! The flooding is insane. I woke up this morning to crazy news reports of so many of the Houston freeways being flooded. Insanity. Austin and the hill country have taken the biggest hit though, and it’s completely heartbreaking. I’m definitely praying for all those affected by the flooding and storms.
But back to trivial things because I just can’t leave on a sad note. I’m officially on food detox now. Here’s the letter I wrote on Instagram:
Dear all the sweets and all things delicious,
I stepped on the scale today, and it screamed at me. I hate to blame you, but it’s all your fault. Sadly, I have to give you up immediately. My seams told me so.
See you again one day when I have more willpower than a Jedi knight. You know, so I can enjoy you in moderation and not like that Augustus kid from Willy Wonka.
All the best,
Your friend Kristy
And that’s all folks! I hope you had the best weekend. And if you’re a Texas girl, stay dry. Let’s all pray for sunny days.
Let’s keep in touch, shall we?
You can see where I’m linking up on this page.

Oh my goodness, Charlotte is soooo cute, I love all her outfits.
Funfetti cupcakes are the best!

Thank you! :) I think she’s pretty cute myself. And yes, funfetti cupcakes are pretty delicious. I wish I could eat them every day! Lol. Hope you’re having a great week!

Sounds like a super weekend! And those little converse…too cute! I have seriously been doing way too much eating out and no matter how hard I try I can only eat healthy out for so long before I make a bad choice.
Kristy says
Thanks, Shelly! Those Converse are some of my favorite shoes for her. And yes, eating out is our entertainment, so it gets hard to eat healthy when we go out. It’s all about balance, I suppose! ;) Hope you’re having a great week!

So unfortunate that all the best tasting foods do a number on our wasteline. I’d be so fit if TexMex was a health food. For real.
Kristy says
Amen, sister! I had chicken soup at Chuy’s yesterday (you know, just another Tex-Mex restaurant in Texas), and I really wanted enchiladas with sour cream. I did however enjoy a few chips. So then I went running. Lol. Always a balancing act! Hope you’re having a great week, my dear!

That sounds like me and fruit pizza & potato salad yesterday. But atleast you did it with family and enjoyed yourself! They’ll be gone before you know it! Here is to cucumbers and watermelon for lunch! :)
Kristy says
I certainly did enjoy it! A little too much. Lol. But I’ve been more conscious this week. It’s just not coming off as fast as I’d like! ;) Hope you’re having a great week!

Girl! I totally understand your struggle this weekend because mine was the same. Your weekend sounds so much like mine its un-real! When I stepped on the scale last night after all of our weekend cook-outs and drinking festivities I was in shock that I put on 4 lbs in the last 3 days! Normally this wouldn’t freak me out, i’d just tell myself I’d start working out and eating even better but I just bought my wedding dress and only have 4 months until we get married so I can’t afford to gain anymore weight. Time to say good-bye to all the delicious, tasty food and margaritas and start #sweatingforthewedding!
Kristy says
Haha. That’s great, Leslie! If your weekend was spent with majority of it in a restaurant, we were one in the same! ;) This weekend has started off the same. I did go running after dinner though, so there’s that. Good luck with getting into the dress. I remember those days all too well! That is the best hashtag ever! Happy weekend, friend!

HAHA! I guess that’s what happens when calories don’t count on holiday weekends, hey? ;) You still look amazing, I wouldn’t worry about it…. it could have been the time of day you stepped on the scale too! I hate weighing myself, in fact I RARELY do because I find the way my clothes fit are such a better indication of how I’m doing! For the record, your food tally from the weekend sounds like those 5 lbs are worth it. Man… my aversions are clearly gone, I love food. Scarlett has that same sweet floral dress as Charlotte and I just love it. PS I love that M’s favourite cupcakes are funfetti… lol
Kristy says
Aww, thanks, girlfriend! My pants were not very happy with me today though. Even with watching my eating this week and exercising, none of these stubborn pounds wanted to budge. I really don’t care about a number, but I do want to feel good in my clothes and have more energy! I’ll get there soon. ;) Ha! Those cupcakes have been his favorite forever. Mine are chocolate and yellow cake. Happy weekend, my dear!

hahaha, well it sounds like it was totally worth the 5 extra pounds and the now needing to eat nothing but carrots and kale!! Yummy.
Kristy says
I ate carrots this week, but with hummus. Not very Paleo, but neither was Chick-fil-A and my hamburger. Darnit! Lol. Happy weekend, Courtney!

What a wonderful weekend recap! You look fabulous Kristy – 45 minutes?! Wow!
So many good things… and those drinks look delicious.
It sounds like a divine weekend (aside from the rain). Thanks for sharing!
I hope things dry out for you.
Wishing you a lovely evening.
xoxo

I swear it was a record. I hadn’t done that since I was working before I had Charlotte.
The drinks were good, but not for my waistline.
Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing, rejuvenating weekend, my dear! Lots of love to you!
