Growing up, our family’s motto was “We may not have it all together, but together, we have it all.” It wasn’t until I had my own family that those words rang all too true. The holidays make me more sentimental than ever, but not with sadness–with pure joy. The hustle and bustle of the season can be a bit exhausting sometimes, but I sit back and look at our family and know that the only gift that truly matters is the gift of togetherness.
HOLIDAY TRADITIONS
Being silly in our festive pajamas is a personal favorite.
From holiday portraits to Christmas movie nights, from baking to outdoor fun, from Christmas books to Christmas crafting, from Santa visits to cozying up by the fire, all of this time together will be something I treasure forever. Our holiday traditions are by far the highlight of my year, and if you know me, you know I love to snap pictures of all of the above so that I can freeze time and remember it forever.
One of my personal favorite traditions is making hot chocolate, putting our favorite Christmas movie on, and decorating the Christmas tree. I’m sure Charlotte would say that baking is her favorite, and for Michael and Colin, I think they would probably say it has something to do with eating the sweets. The older my kids get, these traditions mean so much more. But one tradition I hope to pass on to my children is the gift of charity, so that they will know we’re all in this life together.
GIVING BACK
But above all, no matter if these traditions take place or don’t, the only thing that truly matters is that we’re together. Together, we truly do have it all. We have courage to face the impossible, peace in our heart, smiles on our faces, and the ability to give back.
This holiday season, your donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities gives families with sick children the most precious gifts of all: joy, courage, comfort, strength and togetherness.
Through the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room programs, RMHC provides places for families to stay just steps from the hospitals where their children are receiving critical medical care. I have had friends who have benefited from this charity, and having family near means so much.
Please consider making a contribution today at RMHC.org/donate to help give families the gift of togetherness — and so much more — this holiday season.
So many blessings to you and your family this very special holiday season.
