I know it’s technically not the Dog Days of summer anymore, but just work with me here. It’s been one heck of a week, and by heck, I am being very cautious with my choice of words. I’ll fill y’all in later. But back to my sweet title. It has been one sultry summer for sure. I’m actually going to miss it. My little love muffin loves, LOVES, loves being outside and splish splashing around in her little splash pad and the pool. I don’t know what we’re going to do when and if it ever gets cold again in Texas. I guess we’ll worry about that later. For now, we’re soaking up the sun. In pictures, here’s what we’ve been up to. (And just fair warning, this just might be will be picture overload.)
On the hottest day of the year, she just had to play outside. Sweet baby Jesus, it was hot.
Listening to airplanes or cicadas, one or the other.
Just digging for bugs. No big deal.
And eating grass. It’s Paleo.
Lately, I’ve loved stepping behind my camera to capture my sweet little babe. My hubs is usually the brains behind it, but I figured it was time for me to finally start learning how to use it. I’m not the best at it, but I’m trying. That definitely earns an A for effort in my book.
This little splash pad from HEB (found online at Academy) was seriously the best thing ever this summer. Thanks, Aunt Cin. It’s also on sale at HEB for only 15 dollars. That is a steal!
I mean, we’re talking prime time, sheer enjoyment.
“Excuse me. We are not going in inside yet.”
“Told ya.”
And then I took her to our neighborhood pool. For the first time ever by myself. Daddy was golfing and Nana had just left after a fun weekend. Thankfully, there were almost zero people there being that it was a Sunday, the day before school started. It was also the last day for the pool to be open. I am killing it when it comes to doing things at the last minute. Needless to say, she loved it.
Of course she found a leaf to play with.
Just trying to figure out the water mushroom.
My favorite.
And that’s all she wrote.
It’s amazing how in just a blink of an eye, my little Charlie Bear has turned into a little girl who is no longer a baby. As sad as that makes me, I am always in awe and wonder of how she just loves life and how each day she learns something new. It’s the little things that make her happy, like staring at bugs or a piece of grass, listening to the cicadas, and splashing the water around her feet (or at mommy or daddy). I love that about my little lightening bug. She is pure joy. When I have a bad day, she always makes everything better. And it’s days like these that I never want to forget.
Here’s to the best of days, friends! I hope we all enjoy these last few Dog Days of summer.
P.S. Are you singing The Dog Days Are Over? I am.
