All aboard for our last stop to Zurich! Lucerne and Pontresina were absolutely breathtaking, and our last stop to Zurich was just as fun.
Zurich-Day 6
We traveled back to Zurich by train on our last day, because that’s the city we flew in and out of from the states. Our train stop was only about 10 minutes from our hotel, which was very convenient. However, we were less than pleased with it, so I’m not going to even mention the name of it. I will say that we were in the Opera district and it was a great location, but that’s about it. The view was cute though.
Once we arrived from Pontresina, we were so tired. I’m sure two days of skiing did us in. Which meant everything we had planned to do in Zurich kind of flew by the wayside. We have been to Zurich before, so this last day was purely for getting prepared to head back home early the next day.
Since we knew of a few things to do in Zurich, we did our favorite: just meandered through the ancient streets. Zurich is very much a city vibe, but there is a pocket of super old buildings right across the lake from the Grossmünster (it’s the building you see right behind me). It’s a 12th-century cathederal and magnificent. If you ever find yourself in Zurich, this cathederal is a must-see. It was fun to listen to the bells ring as we walked around.
As soon as we settled in to our hotel, one of our first stops was a lunch cafe near the Opera House, another fabulous landmark. Then I made a beeline to my favorite store ever: Läderach! It’s the best chocolate on the planet, and we’re still kicking ourselves for not buying more.
We walked around a bit more, checked out some high-end consignment shops (no such luck in those though), and then called it a day. Here are some highlights of our stroll.
Then it was off to rest. We chose a pizza shop for our last supper, and it was delicious. I can’t remember the name of it, but it was a cute little restaurant down the street from our hotel.
A day is definitely not long enough to experience all of Zurich, but the colorful buildings and the bells ringing are my favorite parts of it.
Day 7
Then it was back to reality at the airport. I was randomly picked for one of those international searches, so I’m glad we arrived to the airport with plenty of time. Before our flight, we grabbed breakfast from the Priority Pass Aspire Lounge. If you travel frequently, I highly recommend making sure you have access to these lounges–we have ours through American Express.
And then we were on our way back home to our babies! Our flight time was about 9 hours from Zurich to JFK, and that flight was the best. It was half full, and the flight attendants were the happiest and most helpful. I watched two movies and slept.
Switzerland was absolutely amazing to us. I’ll be forever grateful for this vacation.
Until we meet again! Thanks for following along with our travels!
