When I was growing up envisioning how my life would be, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be a stay-at-home mom. I always imagined I would be a workaholic lawyer with a nanny. It’s funny how things never really work out the way you think they will.
As it turns out, I am a stay-at-home mom, and I love it. It took me a little while to get here, to savor this season in my life, but now that I’m here, I don’t ever want to leave. It would be unfair for me to say that this job is the best job of all jobs. That’s definitely not what I’m saying. What I am saying is that for me, I’ve learned to appreciate exactly where I’m at while I’m in it. I would hope that whatever job I’m doing I would have the same attitude. Isn’t that something we all strive for? To love what we’re doing?
I realize that at any given moment, I might have to go back to work and leave this position that I love. Thankfully though, I loved my old job, too. I loved being a teacher (teacher = way different job than lawyer dream). But somewhere along the way, this opportunity presented itself to my family, and we ran with it. The circumstances leading up to me staying at home were nothing short of God’s divine intervention, but I’ll save that story for Oprah’s Life Class. The point is, life happens. Seasons change. Life changes. And we (have to) accept what is thrown our way. We muster up the courage to take on what is given to us, and we hold on to dear life praying for a good outcome.
Right now, we’re in limbo on what our next step in life will be. When will we need a bigger home? When will we have another baby? When will I need to go back to work? I don’t have the answers. My husband doesn’t have the answers. But while we’re waiting for life to sort itself out like I know it always does, I’m going to remember one little fact that has always seemed to get me through transitional seasons: You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. I want to appreciate the now, because tomorrow will worry about itself.
I don’t want to be afraid to look back and say, “I wish I would have enjoyed that more instead of always worrying about the next big thing.” I want to be able to say, “I loved the opportunity I had in my life to (fill in the blank), and I loved it with everything I had.” That’s what savoring your season means to me. You feel me?
Don’t miss a thing. Follow along on…

Healthy perspective! I’ve struggled so many times in life looking forward and working towards where I wanted to be instead of enjoying where I was at the moment. The older I get the more the every day becomes the very most important thing. Have a great day!

Thanks, Shelly! I have always had the same problem. Always trying to rush to the next big thing, but for once in my life, and choosing to just soak it all in and enjoy this time. It doesn’t hurt that this season is my absolute favorite. ;) Hope you have a wonderful day!

I totally agree with you. I always thought that I would continue on with my nursing career and maybe get my NP, but now that I am a stay at home mom…none of that even interests me anymore. Funny how that works isn’t it? This is coming from someone who told her now husband that she wasn’t even sure she wanted children when they first started dating. My how things have changed! This is where I belong though…no doubt in my mind! :-)

That’s awesome, Luisa! I know eventually I’ll have to go back to work full time, but I’m just savoring each day I have with my sweet girl. Time flies way too fast.
Have a great weekend, friend!

I love this post (and your blog in general)! Such anxiety we allow ourselves when we spend time worrying about what will happen in a day, a week, a month, a year. This is something I’m working through — creating ease, being present and appreciating exactly where and how I am in my journey today. This was exactly what I needed to read today. Be well!
Kristy says
Aww, Mary, thank you! Yes, I know about anxiety all too well. I just want to chill and enjoy the now. Tomorrow will most definitely worry about itself. ;) It takes work to be in the moment and to enjoy your journey, but it’s possible. I’m so glad these words resonated with you! Lots of love!

I love this. I am totally in a rut right now and your post really made me think. I may be un happy with my job right now. But right at this point I am where I need to be to get my dreams and goals going. I know I have good things coming my way, I just have to except what I have right now and this is the way it needs to be. I am not going to dwell on what ifs because I could change things, but right now I am going to stay here. This is what need to be doing, this is the direction I need to be heading. Thanks for the post.

Thanks so much, Christine! I’m so happy to hear that these words made you think. There is no reason why we should be unhappy. Each moment helps us to our next. We might as well enjoy it all. Many blessings to you! I hope you have a great weekend!

Thank you for the reminder! I’m always trying to accomplish the next thing on my list and definitely have to learn to enjoy the moment more often. Hope you all are having a better day today!

You are so welcome Mandy! It’s hard to do, but I think it’s pretty worth it. Life is too short to be anything but happy. We did have a better day, and I’m hoping the trend continues. Thanks so much for your thoughts! :) Have a great weekend!

I love this so much and I completely agree with you. We can’t live for the what ifs, it’s so much more enjoyable to live in the here and now. I believe everything works out exactly as it should. Love this reminder to enjoy the season we’re season instead of worrying or wishing for the future.

Yay, thanks girlfriend! I would be a basket case if I always worried about the “what ifs” and what’s going to happen tomorrow or a month from now. I’ve learned to just accept the day for what it is and to try to find the best in everything. I agree. Everything always works out as it should. :) Thanks so much for being such an awesome friend!
