I know we’re more than half way through January, but I wanted to pause and recap some of the outfits I had planned out this month and have worn so far to give any of you who need a little wardrobe refresh some outfit ideas. (*affiliate links used below!)
If you follow along on Instagram Stories, you may have seen that I’ve been picking out my outfits on Sunday nights now just like I do for my kids. It truly makes life so much easier for my Enneagram 9 self. And if you still haven’t taken an Enneagram test or read The Road Back to You, you just might be a 4 or a 9. ;)
Outfit Planning 101
By picking out my outfits on Sunday night, I 1) get to look through my closet and see how I can wear some old things 2) make sure I wear things I love and 3) take the guess work out of putting myself together when I’m rushing out the door in the morning with my kids. True game changer and one of those things I’m kicking myself for not doing sooner.
For those of you who like spontaneity or think this is not for you, I get it. I really do. What I do for a case of “I’m not really feeling this outfit I had planned on wearing” is plan out a full 7 days worth of outfits for the five day workweek. I make sure to add in super casual outfits and then the dressier outfits.
Here are some tips on how I outfit plan:
- On Sunday night, I check the weather app on my phone to see what the forecast is to pull outfits appropriately.
- During the week, I screenshot outfits I see on Pinterest & Instagram that catch my eye that I know I want to recreate with pieces I already have in my closet. Come Sunday, I have some idea of what I want to wear.
- After washing and put away all of my clothes over the weekend, I already know what I have in my closet. I pull pieces to pair together and place them in a certain spot in my closet along with the shoes I’ll wear. I pull these and place them front and center.
- I do this for 7 outfits for my 5 day workweek, giving myself some wiggle room in case I change my mind for a certain day.
This has been such a freeing task, friends! I didn’t do my outfit planning this past week because I thought I had it under control and negative on that, sister. It truly makes a world of difference for me. No more wasting time in the morning aimlessly looking for something to wear while I’m in a rush. No rush = more calm. Who doesn’t need more of that in her life?
I’ve also been wearing a lot of the same pieces in different ways, which I hadn’t been doing before. It’s been so nice to finally get some wear out of my favorite clothes.
