Well, hello there friends! It seems like it’s been absolutely forever since I’ve done a diary-like post about my family. Sorry about that. November was very busy. I was sick for half of it (with things I won’t get into right now) and had a sick family, too, but I’m hoping the sick days are over. It’s cold season in every sense of the word. But enough excuses. Since this blog has become sort of an online journal for my family and sweetest girl, I do want to keep it up, which means we are moving on to the Thanksgiving shenangigans…
Our family picture on Thanksgiving day. |
Last week on Wednesday, we ventured out to my mother-in-law’s house in Beaumont. We spent Wednesday through Friday there, and we had a great time with some family we hadn’t seen since our wedding. Charlotte was of course her doll self and had so much fun entertaining everybody. Here are some highlights from our time there.
As soon as we got there, my MIL had a ton of sugar cookies out, so Miss Thing had her fill. Her diet was perfect while we were on vacation. Ha.
She then wanted to play with the football out in the front yard. How very American of us.
Then on Thanksgiving day, she had fun playing out in the backyard with her grandma, her aunt who is 11, and her second cousin once removed. I think that’s right. I always get the lineage confused after second cousin. Anywho, then it was time for waiting for the feast. While we were waiting, we took some family pictures, because I needed some for our Christmas cards.
Charlotte has been a nut lately, and I love it. More on that next week. When we were outside taking our pictures, she didn’t really want to do the posed pictures. I don’t blame her. She had a huge backyard to explore. She ran around like a crazy woman, and she ended up doing a somersault. On accident. But she totally loved it. M caught this picture right after she rolled over.
My sweet girl. If you follow me on Instagram (and if you’re not, come join the party), I mentioned that Charlotte’s dress is from our favorite shop, Sugar Bit, and her “belt” is actually a headband from Willow Crowns. Both were a little too big for her, so what was a mama to do? I improvised and made it work. Tim Gunn would have been proud.
Then it was on to more waiting. I put on my apron that my Aunt Rita, my mom’s sister, so graciously gave each of her sisters and nieces. Aprons are her thing, and she gave us Saudi Arabia ones since she’s away this year for the holidays, living all the way over there. We sure do we miss her. Since my mom’s side of the family was all separated this year on Thanksgiving Day (something that rarely happens), we all wore our aprons to have each other with us, right close to our heart. Cue the “aww”s.
Our dinner was wonderful, and we had the whole Thanksgiving spread with a Cajun twist: two turkeys, one Cajun and one traditional, ham, stuffing, yams, Cajun potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, rolls, and pies. Charlotte’s favorite things were the mashed potatoes and rolls. There is no denying that the girl takes after her mama. Carboholics we are.
After dinner, we were all stuffed as a tick and rolled around like Violet in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory after she turns into a blueberry. We managed to take a few more pictures though.
And we also were able to get a group shot of all the family.
The next day, we joined everyone for breakfast and then headed back out onto the road. The traffic was super light, so it didn’t take us as long as we thought it would to get to our final destination. Hallelujerrr!
When we arrived in Port Lavaca, it was family fun as usual. I requested that my Mom save me some of her broccoli and rice casserole and my Momo’s dressing. I had that for lunch as soon as we got there, one huge plate of it. I had a picture of it, but it didn’t look very pretty, so just imagine the best picture you can. It was on a red plate if you need more of a visual. Like I said, carboholics for the win! Paleo has gone by the wayside for the time being.
Some of the highlights of our trip to the hometown were our time spent at my Momo & Popo’s house, time spent outside, time spent with my mommy and sister, time spent with my aunts and uncles and cousins, time spent at my favorite Mexican restaurant with my dad, and more time spent at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I didn’t do very good job of taking pictures while we were there because…I don’t know why. However, I did get a few.
Charlotte loves that swing, and she loves her Nana.
She also loves her Pawpaw. She was being so sweet and giving him lots of hugs and kisses.
And now our favorite thing to do when we’re together is play Heads Up. I’m telling you, this game is hilarious. Or maybe my mom is just hilarious when she plays. Either way, we have too much fun playing this game and watching the playback that it records. Just a refresher about the game: it’s an app that has a “deck of cards” with words that you have to act out or give word clues without saying the word on the screen to the person holding the screen. You’re supposed to put the “card” on your forehead, but in the picture above, it didn’t work like that. Who knows. The point of the game is to guess as many words as you can in a designated amount of time. I love this game.
And just like that, it was time to head back home. We were all worn out from the trip, but we had a great time with everyone. On our way home, we stopped at Whataburger to pick up a hamburger for Charlotte because it was her dinner time. She ate it like a big girl. When did this happen?! She even drank her tea like a big girl. Twenty-one months and she’s ready for the world.
So that was our weekend. How was yours? Are you in detox mode until the Christmas and holiday parties are in full swing? Oh, it really is the most wonderful time of the year. ;)
P. S. Thank you so much for reading! You guys really do mean the world to me.

Thanks, Ashley! It was tiring yet fun. Perfect is a far shot, but it was perfectly imperfect in every way. ;) Glad you think Tim Gunn would have been proud, too. Lol.

Sounds like a wonderful holiday weekend! We did a lot of traveling too and were glad to be back home. Looks like little miss handled it all great! Hopefully the sickness is all past you and your family now – you’ve already had your fair share. :( And yes, carboholics for the win!!!! #noshame

Glad to hear that y’all had a great holiday as well! But there is nothing like home sweet home. Charlotte is an early riser when we travel and a short napper, too, but she loves her family. :) I hope the sickies stay away for good. That wouldn’t hurt my feelings in the slightest if they never visited again. Ha. And carboholics unite!

Oh, thank you so much, Daisy! You are always so sweet. :) I have been wearing red lipstick for a while now, and I love it. I always used to be a neutral girl, but when J.Crew made it popular a few years ago, I jumped on the bandwagon and haven’t gotten off. Hope you’re having a great week!

What a wonderful Thanksgiving and so many festivities.
I saw your “Hack” for Charlotte’s dress on Instagram… you’re one brilliant mama!
So many great things here and beautiful pictures (as usual Charlotte steals the show – what a darling)!
Wishing you a lovely day.
xoxo

Yes, so many festivities! Christmas should be a little more low-key, so we were happy to see all of our people this weekend.
Thanks for the compliment about the hack. Lol. When I was dressing her for dinner, I just saw the two, and said, “Hmm…this headband looks like it could be a belt because it looks like the one I wore on my wedding day.” So yep, it worked!
And I don’t mind at all if she steals the show. She is my precious angel, and I love her to pieces. She is the kindest soul I have ever met. :)
Hope you’re having a great week!
