Ever since I had Colin, our daily routine has changed up quite a bit. I mean, it’s been a year and a half of constant changes, but I feel like we’re finally hitting a groove. However, we’ll shake it up again in a few months when my big baby is in Kinder and my baby boy is in Mother’s Day Out. But what does our daily routine look like right now?
Happy Tot Whole Milk Yogurt Pouches
With a five-year-old and a 19-month-old, things can sometimes be a bit tricky with their age difference, but I know Charlotte has really loved being a big sister, and Colin adores her, making most of our days entertaining to say the least. These two are inseparable (except when they fight over a toy of course), and it’s the cutest thing to watch them grow closer every day. Colin clings to her and wants to do everything she does, which also means he always wants whatever she has, including snacks.
Our daily routine is pretty basic, with more structure on school days. Here’s a sample of what our day looks like.
Our Daily Routine
7 a.m. :: Wake up for the day. I usually read a devotional, check my email, and go over what’s on the calendar & to-do list. Get changed out of my pajamas.
7:30 a.m. :: Charlotte wakes up before Colin does, and the first thing she does is head to the fridge. (She has to eat as soon as she wakes up, just like her daddy.) An easy thing for her to grab is a Happy Family Happy Tot Whole Milk Yogurt. This holds her over until I make breakfast, because it packs the nutritional punch with things like calcium, protein, and vitamins.
8 a.m. :: Colin wakes up, so Charlotte and I both go upstairs to get him up and out of crib and changed for the day. Then it’s her turn to get dressed.
8:30 a.m. :: Now it’s time to whip up some breakfast, usually eggs and toast or oatmeal. We are so boring and have the same thing every day because being creatures of habit is our thing.
9 a.m. :: On school days, we’re out the door, but on non-school days, we’re taking our time with breakfast still and ready to start the day of play.
9:30 – 11 a.m. :: Every day, I use this time before lunch to have both Charlotte and Colin play outside or we schedule a play date or breakfast date with friends. If the weather is yucky, we’re up in the playroom reading books, coloring, drawing, or building something. I plan on using this block of time for kindergarten prep this summer or maybe an extra activity like dance class or swim. Wish me luck!
11:30-12:30 :: This is the time I usually block out for us to eat lunch. Lately, we’ve been enjoying our lunch outside since the weather has been so nice. Like I said, my kids are creatures of habits, so this is what lunch usually looks like for them: chicken nuggets + fruit + a yogurt pouch. It’s a pretty balanced meal, and everything is organic, so it’s a win-win. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
If by chance we go out for lunch, this time gets pushed back a little bit and naptime is then thrown off a little bit as well.
12:30 p.m. :: Story time. This is right before Colin’s nap, so upstairs we go to wind down before nap time. I usually read more books or we listen to soft music.
1 p.m. :: Naptime for Colin! He’s a great napper most days which means he’ll nap 2 to 2.5 hours. During school days, he doesn’t get put down for a nap until 2:30 since that’s when we’re home from picking up Charlotte.
1-3:30 p.m. :: This is when I usually try to get some work done around the house: clean up from breakfast and/or lunch, wipe down the counters, wash a load of laundry, sweep, vacuum, tidy up the playroom or bedrooms. Charlotte helps or plays in her room with her Barbie house or doll houses or plays dress up for two hours solid. I’ll also let her watch an episode or two of Daniel Tiger if she asks.
3:30-5 p.m. :: Colin usually wakes up around this time if he’s on schedule. After he wakes up, we all grab a snack and go outside. I try to answer a few emails or do some social media work for the blog, and the kids play outside until their daddy gets home from work. (I’ll probably schedule an activity during this time if I need to during the summer.)
5-6 p.m. :: Dinner time! I usually prep dinner beforehand depending on what the menu looks like, but usually Michael and I split dinner duty. One of us makes it while the other plays with the kids. After that, we sit at the table and eat as a family. It’s my favorite part of the day.
6-7 p.m. :: Wind-down time for the night happens during this hour OR we push things back a little and go for a bike ride or play outside some more.
7-7:45 p.m. :: Bed time for the babies! Baths, books, and bed is usually the lineup. Michael and I work together to get the kids to bed, and Colin is usually the first to go down. We read them a book, say prayers, and say good night.
8-10 p.m. :: We prep for the next day, clean the kitchen, and then get ready for bed ourselves. Life with littles is exhausting! If I have work to do for the blog, I usually will do it after this time and go to bed late. Not ideal, but it’s what works for us.
Then we rinse and repeat!
Sound familiar? I’m sure! ;)
