It’s the last week of school for us over here, the Texas heat is rising, and summer is on the brain! Lazy days hanging out on the back patio are near, and we can’t wait. We’ll be sipping our sweet tea, running through sprinklers, hanging out with family and friends, and enjoying the occasional breeze. That’s what summer is made of.
One super fun and easy way to kick it up a notch is to make our most favorite drink even cooler. I absolutely love Milo’s Tea, the famous sweet and unsweet version, too, because I’m all about simple, freshly brewed, no preservatives, all natural drinks.
This year, I wanted to try something a little different with our usual iced sweet tea, so I came up with a lavender infused sweet tea slush! It was a huge hit! It’s super easy, and your friends and fam are sure to love it, too. It’s refreshing and just the right amount of sweet and sassy. Here’s what you need.
Lavender Sweet Tea Slush
INGREDIENTS
- Unsweet Tea
- 2 tsp lavender extract
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup water
- sugar
- flowers & dried lavender for garnish
DIRECTIONS
- Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a small pot to make a simple syrup. Bring the mixture to boil and add 2 tsp lavender extract and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
- Simmer until the mixture starts to thicken up a little. (If your mixture isn’t thick enough for your liking, add a little more sugar.) Remove from heat and let it sit to completely cool.
- Once your simple syrup is completely cooled, you can refrigerate overnight to have on hand for your slushes.
- To make two drinks, place 1 cup of Unsweet Tea in a blender. Then sweeten to taste with 3 to 4 tablespoons of the lavender simple syrup.
- Add about 3 cups of ice and blend until the drink reaches a slushie consistency.
- Serve immediately, garnished with a flower and dried lavender stem.
Milo’s Tea is THE beverage for summer meal entertaining and get-togethers! It’s available sweetened with pure cane sugar, no calorie, and unsweet options.
A little bit of history about Milo’s
Another reason why I love this tea is because I love Milo’s Tea Company! It’s a third generation, family owned, certified woman owned business located in Bessemer, AL. They know their tea, y’all! Milo’s was founded as a restaurant in 1946 by Milo and Bea Carlton after Milo returned from serving his country in World War II. Milo’s philosophy was simple – use high quality, fresh, natural ingredients, listen to your customers and never sacrifice taste.
In 1989, Milo’s began selling their fresh brewed Famous Sweet Tea to local Birmingham grocery stores and now Milo’s beverages can be found in thousands of retailers across the United States. Milo and Bea’s vision still guides the company today as Milo’s continues to source only natural ingredients, fresh brew all of their teas and never use colors, acids, additives or preservatives. Read the simple ingredient list on their juices and teas, and you will see, it’s as good as it gets.
I found Milo’s at my local Whole Foods in the refrigerated juice section but they are available in lots of retailers. You can find a store near you by using the store locator.
Now who’s ready for summer?!
