This summer, we’re all about getting out of our comfort zone and trying new things. I’m most comfortable when I’m living out my daily routine with minimal changes. I think we’re all like that to some degree. That’s great and all, but what if we shook things up a bit? What if this summer, we pushed ourselves a little further and tried something new each week? Trying Something New
Last week, Charlotte and I tried out a new smoothie recipe. I let her take the lead in the kitchen, and that definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. We tried a yellow kiwi strawberry banana smoothie, and it was the most delicious smoothie we’ve ever made at home! Seriously, it’s our new favorite.
Had it not been for Zespri’s Wander and Win Challenge, we might not have tried it. I wanted our new recipe to center around the Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit, and we definitely came up with a winner.
Yellow Kiwi Strawberry Banana Smoothie
INGREDIENTS
- 3 Zespri SunGold yellow kiwifruit
- 1 banana, frozen or fresh
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- 1/2 cup plain, non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- optional: any greens or add-ins like chia seeds, protein powder, etc.
DIRECTIONS
- Scoop out the yellow kiwifruit and add in to the blender with the banana, sliced strawberries, yogurt, and milk. Blend until smooth. Add in any extras and the heaping tablespoon of honey; blend again until smooth.
- If you have used all fresh ingredients (not frozen), add in a 1/2 cup of ice to help the smoothie stay chilled. Blend until liquified.
- Garnish with a slice of kiwi for good measure.
Charlotte loved it so much, she wanted to drink it from the blender! Ha. Trying something new was fun for her, too! This is the perfect, easy smoothie to take with you on-the-go when you’re out wandering on new adventures.

I don’t think I had ever heard of a yellow kiwi before we tried this, but they are delicious! Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit is in the exotic fruit section – a place hardly anyone ever goes, so go wander in that direction next time you’re at the grocery store. You will love this one-of-a-kind golden fruit. It’s naturally yellow, tropically sweet and packed with nutrients. If you’ve experienced green kiwi, this one is a tad sweeter and doesn’t have the fuzzy skin. The taste is somewhat a cross between a strawberry and a mango.
