It’s happening! The final season of Downton Abbey is upon us, and yesterday was the U.K. premiere, Downton Day as they call it. And if you’re anything like me, you want to watch with the Brits. Yes, I’ll watch with America in January when it premieres on PBS, but I will not wait that long to enjoy my most favorite television show of all time, especially in its final days. So you’re wondering, how do you watch Downton Abbey’s final season now if you’re in the United States or elsewhere? I’ve got you covered.
Last year, I shared my method of how I watch Downton the same Sunday nights as the British. The website I use may be questionable to some, but it works. You don’t have to sign up for anything, and it’s not going to cause harm to your computer (at least that has been my experience from using this method for the past two years).
STEP ONE.
I usually watch from my Mac laptop, and since the hosting site is full of ads, I’ve downloaded this free & trusted ad blocker for Macs. I don’t know if it works for PCs, but you’re bound to find something that is suitable for your computer. You’ll want this for sure! It blocks all of the ads on the site and makes navigating the site a dream.
STEP TWO.
Go to Watch-TV Series. Click HERE.
STEP THREE.
I’ve created a visual for what you’ll see once you arrive to the page. You can follow the instructions below.
You’ll find all of the seasons of Downton Abbey on this page. The most current episode is usually uploaded a few hours after the original airdate and will be at the very bottom of the webpage. Each Sunday at 9 pm CST, I usually have a new episode to watch when the season is in progress. You’ll simply click on the episode you want to view, and then follow the instructions in the image above. Don’t click on the play button in the middle of the video screen. Press play in the bottom left corner as seen. If you click the wrong button, usually an ad will pop up if you don’t have an ad blocker. No big deal, just exit out and return to the video. You can also fix the video quality on the right hand side of the video screen. Once you’re good to go, expand to full screen after letting the video buffer a bit. Easy peasy.
In the past, I have been able to watch from my iPhone and iPad, although you’ll have to exit out of ads more frequently since there isn’t an ad blocker for those devices. However, I haven’t found that to be the case for season 6 yet. I hoping it will work soon. When this method worked on my iPad, I didn’t have to fix the video quality, because it automatically plays at the highest resolution. I’ll be watching from my laptop at some point today and projecting through my Apple TV to my television.
ALTERNATE METHOD:
If you want to watch each episode live (Sundays 3 PM CST) and have behind-the-scene footage available to you as well, I highly suggest going to A Golden Afternoon’s website as she has listed instructions on how to download the ITV player (Downton Abbey’s U.K. cable network) using Tunnel Bear. She does pay a monthly fee to be able to watch the season, but it’s her preferred way to view each episode as it originally airs. Bon from A Golden Afternoon is the genius behind helping tons of Americans watch Downton Abbey with the British for the past several seasons. Had it not been for her, I wouldn’t be able to share my method today. How I watch is also listed on her site.
And for all of you Downton Abbey fans who want to wait (why you want to torture yourself, I’ll never know), you can catch up with Seasons 1-5 on Amazon Prime.
Happy Downton time!

Great advice! I put the VPN from Hola.org on my laptop. It allows you to select which country to use as your browsing location. Then head over to Itv Player website. By having the Hola VPN on my Chrome browser I can also watch shows on BBC.

Wow, you are amazing! I’m tempted to watch, but then again I’m wondering if I’ll want to watch it when I’m nursing the little one come december? I might save it for then!
