This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of Triple Paste; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
As you all know, my sweet baby Colin is my fireball. He’s always bouncing off the walls, playing hard all day long, smiling and grinning from ear to ear while doing it. But last weekend, he was dealing with the worst diaper rash, and it broke my heart. It was the worst at night when he would sleep, because if he soiled his diaper, whether it was a pee or poop diaper, he screamed bloody murder because the pain of the rash would wake him up. Imagine pouring salt into an open wound. No wonder they scream. I woke up in the middle of the night for three nights, and it was the saddest thing. But you know me; I was Detective Mom trying to figure out the cause of his rash, and most importantly how to get rid of it, because nothing was cutting it. (Long story short, I found Triple Paste, but more on that in a second).
Since I did some research, I thought I’d share the lowdown all about the dreaded baby’s bottom diaper rash and how to fix it.
Why does my baby get diaper rash?
My baby does have sensitive skin, so at first I thought it might be the diaper. He’s in between sizes, but from what I’ve learned in the last five years of being a mama, diaper rashes can have a few causes. Infrequent diaper changes, sensitive skin, acidic or new foods, sickness, too small of a diaper, or allergic to the materials the diaper is made of are all the major culprits.
So, how do you prevent it and treat it?
Let’s face it, sometimes your baby can go a few hours without you noticing a diaper change is needed, because that’s busy toddler life! It’s also mom life. But here’s what I know.
Change those diapers
I know Colin is always way too busy playing and throws fits the moment I mention it’s time to change his diaper, but when you’re baby is experiencing a rash, change their diaper more often than not! Check it every 30 minutes if you have to, and set a timer to remind yourself. Our goal is to keep our baby dry and clean.
Use a diaper rash ointment that works
As you all know, I love using natural remedies to help any ailment, but sometimes, you need a quick, effective, and easy solution, especially when your baby is screaming of pain. I was so thankful to hear about Triple Paste, because man, did it help immediately. I only wish I would have known about it sooner.
When Charlotte was a baby, she experienced a really awful diaper rash that left welps and required a trip to the doctor. (Turns out, she was allergic to peas.) The doctor prescribed a compounded (and pricey) diaper cream, but it worked miracles.
Fast forward a few years, and thankfully, I didn’t need to take Colin in to the doctor for this round of a rash, but it makes me so happy to know that the same compounded prescription cream I used years ago is what Triple Paste’s formula is based on! Except now it’s available over the counter. Amazing, right?
Triple Paste contains: zinc oxide, white petrolatum, corn starch, anhydrous lanolin, stearyl alcohol, beeswax, bisabolol, cholesterol, water, glycerine, oat (avena sativa) kernel extract, polysorbate 80. It’s fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, and contains no preservatives. And even though Triple Paste was formulated to treat the stubborn diaper rash, it is very gentle and can be used on a daily basis in order to prevent diaper rash from occurring in the first place. I’m keeping this on our changing table and in our diaper bag at all times from now on.
Thankfully, Colin was as good as new after one night of applying Triple Paste. So thankful we found this one.
Cut out acidic foods
When your baby has a bad diaper rash, it’s probably best to cut out the acidic foods like citrus fruits, strawberries, and tomatoes for the time being. Those foods can be irritating to the digestive system and the bottom.
Air it out
If you have the opportunity to let your little one run around without a diaper, let them run free! Having the rash away from moisture as long as possible is going to help speed up the healing process. You’d probably want to do this outside if you can.
You know what they say, “If baby ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy,” and that’s so true! If there’s one thing I can do to help boost our mood around here, I’m all for it. And keeping the rash away is one thing I’m striving for.
Be sure to grab a coupon for your Triple Paste diaper cream. Believe me, this is a nursery essential!
As always, if your baby’s diaper rash persists, please take them in to see a doctor. You don’t want to mess around with a bad rash.
