The other day I was going to make meatballs with spaghetti sauce, pairing it with either zoodles or cauliflower mash. I knew I would make the kids spaghetti with the meatballs, so when making my list for Michael (he’s our designated grocery shopper), I added “tomato sauce,” as in pre-made spaghetti sauce. He’s a man, therefore, he didn’t read my mind and in deed did buy tomato sauce. From a can. With no seasoning. What did I do? I made it work! I ended making a super delicious sauce. So good that I wrote down what I did to make it. Here’s what you can do when you’re looking for a good for you, simple homemade spaghetti sauce from scratch.
INGREDIENTS
- 15 oz. organic tomato sauce
- 10.75 oz. tomato puree
- 2 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp basil leaves
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp special house seasoning
- HOUSE SEASONING RECIPE:
-
1 cup salt
-
1/4 cup black pepper
-
1/4 cup garlic powder
-
Mix all ingredients together. Mixture can be stored in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
-
- HOUSE SEASONING RECIPE:
- 1/4 cup spaghetti water
DIRECTIONS
Bring tomato sauce & puree to a boil with all dry seasonings. Simmer until heated through. Add spaghetti water to sauce to thin it out if preferred.
I added in frozen meatballs into the sauce and let it simmer for another 10 minutes until the meatballs were heated through.
If you want to make this a low carb meal, pair the sauce and meatballs with zoodles or cauliflower rice/mash. It was extremely delicious, and now I think I’ll add in fresh mushrooms next time.
Enjoy!
