Another Easter has come and gone, and it was a joyous one down by the bay. This was actually Charlotte’s third Easter, and I say it all the time, but where does the time go? I’ll never know. We had a long three day weekend with family, and it was just the best. I took about a million pictures, but never enough in my book. And somehow I always miss out on pictures that I mean to take but forget in the moment. That’s life I guess.
So just to recap the weekend since I’m all about documenting memories around here, this is what went down in our neck of the woods.
Thursday night we packed up the Tahoe and drove our two hours to my hometown by the bay. That left us with three full days to get in all the Easter we could. And all the humidity and mosquitoes, too.
Friday, the hubs spent some time with my dad golfing then my sister, Charlotte and I joined them for our new tradition of lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. I tried to catch some shots of us all together, but since when did taking pictures with this little rascal becomes such a task? It’s seriously like trying to wrestle a monkey. This was the best we could do.
Sister had better luck.
Pawpaw did too. Charlotte LOVES her Pawpaw. (Sidenote: how do y’all spell Pawpaw? I spell it out like it sounds. But I’ve seen people spell it Papa? Just curious.)
I tried really hard to get a picture of my attempt to purposely match my mini me, but it was sort of a joke. She refuses to stay still. This will do.
We then headed back home for nap time, and I headed to get a pedicure and manicure. We do not waste a minute while we are visiting family. Once the muffin woke up, we went to dinner at one of our favorite seafood places. This is what my meals looked like on Good Friday. So much for fasting. My family revolves our daily schedule around food. It’s our thing. I even did an Anthropology paper about it in college. True story.
Any who, by the time we were finished up with dinner, Charlotte was pooped. She snuggled up on Nana’s shoulder and couldn’t wait to be put to bed.
Saturday was another full day of fun shenanigans. We took Charlotte to the beach that morning for the first time, and I have a post coming up dedicated to just that because it deserves its own space on the internet. But here’s a preview. I die.
Then it was lunch with my dad again, nap time, and after that, it was time for the Easter egg hunt festivities. One of my aunts hosted the evening, and it was so much fun.
Another one of my aunts brought some games for the guys to play, and the mini girls ran around said games thinking it was for them, too.
I guess Charlotte thinks everything is an accessory.
Before our Easter dinner, my cousin and I hid some Easter eggs and let the girls have at it. This year it was only Charlotte and my cousin Sarah’s little girl Sophia doing the hunting. They’re about nine months apart, but this year, both of them totally understood how to hunt for eggs or at least they got the concept of putting eggs in their baskets. It was too cute. I would post the video, but there was way too much cackling going on. I’ll spare you. I’ll share pictures instead.
I loved watching Charlotte hunt for eggs. It was the cutest thing ever. She would grab each egg, shake it, and then open it up to see what was in it before putting it in her basket. She is the most meticulous little girl I’ve ever known. She preferred the eggs with chocolate inside. Obviously.
Once we were done, we took a few pictures of the girls with all their Easter basket glory. There’s something to be said about having such a big family. These little girls are spoiled with love beyond belief. And then they’re spoiled with ALL THE THINGS. They eat it up, literally and figuratively.
Charlotte was in heaven. Eating chocolate and reading books is her jam. You can also see her Easter basket details in this post, too.
We were then rushing to go inside and eat dinner, because food. This made me miss some sweet photo opps, but I guess since my computer is almost to maximum capacity on space, I’m not lacking in the picture department. I did manage to get one of Charlotte and Nana, and then I managed to get one of my mini family thanks to the photo skills of my baby cousin (she’s 15).
This picture below kills me. Charlotte’s expression pretty much sums up her character right now: sweet and sassy. I mentioned this on Instagram and Facebook, but Charlotte has this new thing about eating things and then harboring them in her mouth for a good 30 minutes. I’m trying to figure out how to break her of this habit, but it’s hard. In this picture, she’s stowing away some chewed up jelly beans like a bonafide chipmunk. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. How do I make it stop? This cannot be sanitary or safe. But moving on…
We had a delicious Easter dinner and then chilled out with the family until it was time for Charlotte to go to bed. It was such a fun, relaxed day with everyone, celebrating life, making new memories with the munchkins, and I am so thankful for that.
Sunday we went to mass to celebrate Easter, and I just can’t get enough of the meaning behind the reason for the season. When you really sit back and think about the magnitude of the event, it can get you all teary eyed and full of emotion. Easter day, Momastery shared this message. She pretty much sums up why I’m crazy about Jesus and all this Easter jazz. This is probably one of my favorite Facebook messages she’s shared in a long time:
“The Two Most Holy Messages of Christianity: 1. HE IS BORN 2. HE IS RISEN. BOTH MESSAGES DELIVERED BY ANGELS TO WOMEN. THE WOMEN WERE THE FIRST TO KNOW AND BELIEVE. We always are. We are holy rascals. We are the hearers and the believers and the deliverers of miraculous news. We hear. We believe MIRACULOUS NONSENSE. We deliver it to the men and the children. Our faith in nonsense heals the world.
There should be a woman at the front door of every church and another on every pulpit being the first to announce to every congregation this morning: HE IS RISEN!
Alongside sisters all over the world this morning and on the shoulders of our ancient sisters (MARY MAGDALENE, Joanna, Mary of James and the others) who this morning visited the tomb and found nothing: I proclaim: THE TOMB IS EMPTY! HE IS RISEN! And so YOU-YES, YOU – LISTEN! That place you visit every day- your tomb- that place of hopelessness- your pain, your addiction, your past: THERE IS NOTHING THERE! Your hopelessness is empty! STOP VISITING! WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD?? YOU HAVE RISEN: YOU ARE ALIVE! YOU ARE A BRAND NEW THING!!!!! LIVE! LIVE LIVE LIVE!
I cannot handle the joy and hope of this day. I will be asleep by 3.
EAAAAAAAAAAAASTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
I mean, can you even?
With all that heaviness, I’ll counteract it with something light. Like what Charlotte wore on Easter day.
(Her dress if from the cutest shop called Little Miss Dessa. It’s a fabulous shop with a great cause, and the momprenuer behind it is such an inspiration. Definitely check her out for great handmade pieces. Everything is beyond darling.)
I then was able to snag a picture of Charlotte with her Aunt Beige (because she doesn’t know how to say Paige).
And then one last picture from the weekend: me and the mini. We matched one more time.
Holidays never get old, especially with a little person in your life. Charlotte reminds me every day to LIVE, and it’s holidays like this one that remind me that LIVING is where it’s at. I’ve been sort of been in a funk lately, but this Easter was just the dose of reality I needed to snap me out of it. By His wounds we are HEALED. The tomb is empty. Let’s go and LIVE.
Hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday! Have a good one, sister. :)

Thanks, friend! I don’t know what the deal is about being a squirrel, but it’s grossing me out. I think we might be breaking that habit though. I’m teaching her by example how to chew her food. For the love.
