You know what my best kept secret is when it comes to my hair? Volume products! And right now I’m really loving Dove Thickening Ritual Shampoo & Conditioner and Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo. You guys, who has time to wash her everyday? I know I don’t. And better yet, who has time to tame the mane every day? I thought I didn’t, but I found a solution, and it’s so easy!
I am so excited to share with you a new tutorial of how to achieve volume for days with second day hair. But first, I want to list out step by step what I do and what you’ll need.
How to Achieve Extra Volume on Second Day Curls
Step 1
Girl, wash your hair. My hair does best when it’s washed every other day. No, I haven’t trained it to go longer with washes, because that’s just gross for me. (More power to you if you can go a week without washing.) In order for you to get the best volume you can get, you’re going to need to start with the right shampoo and conditioner. My current fave, like I said earlier, is Dove Thickening Ritual Shampoo and Conditioner.
I take a shower at night, so I brush my hair and let it air dry by sleeping with it wet. My hair bounces between straight to naturally wavy, so when I wake up, I only have to tame the regrowth at the front of my hairline.
Step 2
Curl your hair with a great curling iron. I use a ceramic, super hot 1.25 inch curling iron, and I do the beach curls almost every day. To do this, you’ll want to grab about a one inch section of hair, position the curling iron for the curls to be AWAY from your face, then clamp down on the midsection of the piece of hair you’ve grabbed. Curl up, then open the clamp up to twirling the ends of your hair through the curling iron. Repeat on the rest of that side of your head, then switch. Always curl away from your hair though, that’s the trick to my curls. I then brush through them when I’m done, and I add hair serum to my ends for extra shine.
Enjoy your day and go about your business. Sleep on it, and then wake up with loose curls from yesterday.
Step 3
If you’re anything like me, a day in the summer makes the roots of my hair extra greasy. This is a no-go for me. Here’s where the magic happens! Grab a blow dryer with a narrow concentrator nozzle attachment, a round brush, and some Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo!
First brush your hair, then spray your roots generously with the Dove dry shampoo. Make sure they’re nice and coated, and then start sectioning your hair, grabbing the roots with the round brush and blow drying your hair up and away from your scalp. Do this section by section until the entire crown of your head is blow dried.
Step 4
Fluff with your fingers making sure any excess dry shampoo is rubbed into your scalp, run your brush through your hair one more time, and voila! Good to go!

Ready to see what this looks like in action? Here’s a video of exactly what I do (blow dry face and all) to get this easy, voluminous look.
What do you think? So easy, right!
I was blown away by the combo of this shampoo, conditioner, and dry shampoo! The shampoo and conditioner is keeping my hair strong and healthy, and I love the volume that it gives. And the dry shampoo is my favorite because not only does it take the grease out, it really does give so much extra added volume!
Doing this mini-blow out at home makes me walk around with extra confidence and an added pep in my step. You can find all the Dove products on the shelves in the haircare department at Walmart, and at this price, it’s a no brainer to go and try it! I love the small size of the dry shampoo, too, because I can toss it in my purse and take it with me on-the-go when I need a little touch-up.
Keeping it simple and easy when getting dressed is living the dream. ;)
