Well, hello friend! We’ve already seemed to zip through one week of August, and in exactly five weeks, we’ll be welcoming our little bambino (if he doesn’t come early). Crazy town. So what’s currently going on? A lot actually. If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, you’ll know that I’ve been nesting and purging like crazy. I’ve been behind the scenes working on collaborations with some amazing baby brands, too. I can’t wait to share more when the time comes. ;) However, when it comes to blogging right now, I cannot tell a lie. It’s been difficult. Which brings me to topic numero uno.
ONE.
34 Weeks
This week has been especially tough since I’ve been experiencing a whole lot more aches and pains as I’ve reached 34 weeks of pregnancy. For example, last night I woke up at 4 a.m. with some really bad belly cramps. I couldn’t go back to sleep for about an hour, and it definitely doesn’t help that I can’t cool off. Thanks, hormones!
During the day, I’m basically one big blob trying to push through to keep up with a little lady constantly asking me to play. She hates when I’m on my computer, so I’ve tried to keep it away and focus on her since she is about to have her world rocked. See my predicament? Blog work has been getting pushed aside a lot lately. I know this season is temporary, but sheesh. It’s been exhausting and a little disappointing, because I love blogging. I’m sure my energy and the balance I had once found will return soon.
In the meantime, rearing its ugly head is swelling. My face has officially morphed. I thought if I didn’t gain as much as I did with Charlotte that it wouldn’t happen, but no such luck. Officially, I’ve gained 25 pounds, but apparently that means nothing to my body. Cool. My nose has expanded, and my face is greased like a New Jersey sunbather in the 1980s. Indigestion is also a daily occurrence, making eating a lovely experience. And my fingers and feet go numb constantly. Joy.
I also can no longer sit comfortably. It feels likes an elephant is sitting on top of my diaphragm when I sit too long or not in a comfortable position (which is almost any way I sit), and “ain’t nobody got time for that.” (That’s also another reason why blogging has become so hard.) I am officially counting down the days to delivering, even though I’m scared to death of this huge life change. Is that enough whining? Fun times.
On a positive note, I had my last ultrasound this week, and my little babe is average in weight and size. He’s five pounds right now and completely healthy as far as they can tell. I’m so, so thankful for that!
TWO.
Charlotte’s first trip away
This past weekend, my mom took Charlotte for four days, and it was time well spent for everyone! My mom lives two hours away, so it was a complete treat for her to drive all the way to us to pick Charlotte up and then take her back.
M and I really enjoyed the “baby moon” of cleaning and organizing the house to get ready for baby CMM. How old do we sound? But really, we loved every minute. We had an awesome lunch on Thursday, drove all around Houston on Friday then had dinner at one of our favorite sushi spots, took naps, and woke up at 9:30 every morning. It was so great. We did get a ton of what we needed to done, and we donated a truck full of stuff, so we were pretty happy with our efforts. You can read all about how cleaning out my closet made me come to a new conclusion about life.
Meanwhile, Charlotte had a blast with my mom and family, building a sandcastle, having a picnic, playing on the playground at the beach, and swimming…and lots of eating, too. Fun times with Nana! I’m so thankful that she was able to make some memories like I did when I was little.
She loved every minute. However, she did come home calling me mom, as if she grew up by five years.
P.S. When did my sweet girl get so tall? She’s gone from wearing a 3T to a 5T in less than a year.
THREE.
HMB Playdate
As much as we love pajama days, I also love being able to take Charlotte to playdates and fun outings. As soon as she got home on Sunday, I already had a fun day for us planned on Monday. We attended the Houston Moms Blog playdate where we met a few of our friends, and this one was probably HMB’s best. It was held at a really cute skating rink called Kingdom and Wheels, and it was so funny to watch these kids try to skate. Charlotte was so determined to do it, but she did fall a handful of times and had some tears. She wanted to keep trying though which was all right by me. The facility also had a huge play ground she loved, and then we went out to the Princess and Tiaras spa on wheels.
She wanted me to be right next to her while she was in the spa mobile, but that’s par for the course these days. She has become super clingy. Imagine that. She was very proud to get her fingernails painted, and she was so good sitting still. I think she’s going to love getting manicures. Just like her mama.
FOUR.
Snapchat or Instagram Stories?
I’ve said before how I really do enjoy using Snapchat for fun. It lets me share my silly side with you and what I’m making and loving (or not loving). It’s been super casual and a fun way to peek into our daily life. See example above on the left. But then Instagram comes along and wants to be a game changer. They’ve added in these “stories” for us to use, exactly like Snapchat but now in our Instagram app. I’m at a loss. While more people “view” my story on Instagram, I kind of like Snapchat better. However, I do feel like there are a lot of you NOT using Snapchat, but you are using Instagram, and now you feel like using the story feature there. I get it. You’re able to get a taste of what everyone else has been doing on Snapchat. But I know for me, I cannot keep up with both.
Any thoughts on the matter? Do you want to see our day to day snaps on Snapchat or on Instagram?Let me know. ;)
FIVE.
The Olympics
It’s Olympics time! I shared this on my Facebook page yesterday, so I wanted to make sure you saw it here, too. Below is a link to the full lineup of events. The Opening Ceremony is tonight and that’s always exciting to watch. I’ll be looking forward to the girl’s gymnastics the most. Are you going to be watching?
And that’s about it!
Sidenote: It took me five whole hours to write this because of constant distractions and aches and pains this morning. See? The blogging struggle continues.
Happy weekend, friends! See you here next week.

Thanks, Sarita! Hope your week is off to a great start!

Your 34 Weeks description and emotions sound OH so familiar! I still feel like finding time to blog is a challenge… and I’m ok with that. Like you said, the balance will come back! But you’re almost there!! So exciting! We are super excited about the Olympics over here. I was teaching Elizabeth how to chant USA! USA! yesterday :) Hope you’re getting a little rest today!
Kristy says
Whew, it’s exhausting. I didn’t get “balanced” again until Charlotte was a year old, but I’m thinking (and hoping) that it will even out well before then. I miss blogging so much, but every time I have a free second, I just want to rest. :/ Almost there is right!
And yes, the Olympics have been so great so far! I can’t wait for more gymnastics tonight.
Have a good one, Katie!
Courtney {Alkeks Abroad} says
You are in the home stretch! I feel you on letting the blog take a backseat towards the end and I didn’t have a toddler as an excuse. Also, I’m so annoyed at this new Instagram thing. I can’t do both and I don’t really feel like watching other people on both things. It’s just too much. 😁 I don’t even really understand Instagram stories and so I’m sticking to snap for now.
Kristy says
Yes, Courtney! Home stretch it is! I’ve missed blogging and interacting as much as I used to, but my energy this year (since February) has been zapped, especially now!
And yeah, I’m still Snapchat and upload the occasional picture to Instagram. The stories on there are out of control. And I feel like it takes forever to load. :/
Hope you’re getting the hang of mommyhood! So excited for you!
