M got a new golf club, and I got this! A new lens for my camera. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 to be exact. I’m so excited to start using this puppy. I’ve heard great things about it, and one of my goals this year is to really learn how to use my camera and start using manual mode. If any of you have any tips or great tutorials for novice photographers (novice as in I’m still using AV mode only), I’m all ears.

Target workout clothes. Who needs Lulu Lemon when you have Target? This week, on one of our runs to Red Dot Boutique, I was itching to spend my gift card money from Christmas, and the workout clothes section was calling my name. Since I have the half marathon coming up next weekend (gasp), I needed some “new running clothes” motivation. But as you can see, running shoes Uggs are not. We can talk about my lack of training later. What you really need to know is how wonderful these items are! This is THE perfect top and the perfect legging. This top fits almost like a tunic and is similar to sweatshirt material but thinner, and these leggings are actually warm. I couldn’t find the exact link for the leggings, but if you go to the store, look for the tag that says “Power Core Warm Compression.” They feel like sweatpants material on the inside. I think this ensemble will be my new SAHM uniform from here until eternity…when I need to change out of my pajamas.
this shower gel. I have always seen this line of beauty products by philosophy, but I had never used any of them because I’m very particular about perfumed bath products. But lo and behold this shower gel is amazing! It can be used as a shampoo, body wash, or bubble bath. I’m sticking with using it as my shower gel. My mom actually had this at her house, and I used it during Christmas for Charlotte’s bath. The bubbles this creates is awesome, but the yummy scent is what won me over. It’s not too sweet, it’s strong like cinnamon, and it’s definitely not overpowering. Best body wash ever.
And that’s all folks! We have a low key weekend planned that consists of taking down our Christmas decorations (crying a river about that one) and going to a birthday party at a gym. Other than that, we’ll be trying to stay warm. Have a great weekend, girlfriend! And don’t forget to be brave. ;)

Your daughter is SO cute. Isn’t it sweet how they immediately want to nurture something even though it’s a doll. Already she’s trying to be like mama, so sweet! Checking out that Target outfit now, looks so comfy!
Kristy says
Aww, thanks Whitney! And yes, it is the sweetest! Watching her with her babies makes me think that she’ll be a great big sister one day. ;) The “athletic” clothes is having a major sale right now, too! I think it goes until tomorrow. These things were a steal. ;)
Shelly @ the Queen in Between says
You will love, love the lens!! It was one of the first lenses I purchased.

I hope so! I just need to spend more time with my camera and force myself to learn everything. :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend, friend!

Love the sweet pictures of her with the baby doll. I used to loooove my American Girl dolls. Oh goodness.
I took a few classes to learn how to use my camera when I first got it (very helpful, I’d search around your area to see if there are any offered at a community college or something). One of the sites the instructor had us use for simulation was this one: http://camerasim.com/apps/camera-simulator/ I found it helpful to play with the manual settings for ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. It also gives a little definition of each one. It was also good for me to have it truly simulate what I see on my camera (Canon T3i). I’m very visual when it comes to this stuff! Once you get the hang of those things it’s all about practice…and more practice…and a little more. :) Hope that helps you!
Kristy says
Thank you, Rebecca! I never had one, so I’m sure I’ll love this new obsession. ;)
I am definitely going to look into this site. That sounds like it will fit my learning style perfectly! Thank you so much for pointing me in that direction. I will also look for a class too. I did sign up for an online workshop, but it’s not as step-by-step as I was hoping. Like you said, it’s all about practice. I look forward to doing plenty of that this year. :)
Have a great weekend!

As you know I loved your resolutions post :)
You are going to LOVE your 50mm, text me anytime with questions I am happy to help! What camera do you have? I hope cannon (because obviously I’m a cannon girl) hehe
Love charlottes little baby grand piano!! So cute! And the baby dolls :) umm we need a target and an American girl store…. Or we need to come visit Houston ;)
Kristy says
Thanks, love! And yes, I do have a Cannon! I have the T3i. I seriously am learning how to change the settings in super slow baby steps. Lol. I’ll definitely be asking you for advice. ;)
Wait, what?! You guys don’t have a Target? How did I not know this? Tell A that there are TONS of jobs here in Houston and that the cost of living is wayyyy less than Canada. Then we can go to Target, American Girl, & Chick-fil-A together all the time. :) What a dream! But if that can’t happen, yes, come visit!
Tiffany {A Touch of Grace} says
I have avoided the American Girl store in our area for all the reasons you named. We would spend way too much. But some day she’ll get one. I loved my AG dolls growing up.
I so want that lens too! Maybe after no spend January is over I can convince the hubs it’s a must have, haha!
Have a great weekend girl!
Kristy says
Thankfully, Charlotte has plenty of family members to spoil her. Whew! Now I know where to direct them. Lol. I never had an AG doll, but I did read the books. I always wanted the Samantha doll. Maybe I did have her now that I think about it? Who knows.
I am so excited about this lens! But from what I can tell, it’s not that different from my kit lens. I’m obviously not using it to it’s full potential yet, so I’m excited to see what it can do! No spend January? I’m sure my husband would love that. Lol. I’ll do a no spend month eventually. Maybe in March or April. ;)
Have a super fun weekend, friend!

I can’t wait for my daughter to get into American Girl dolls, even though my wallet prob wont! ;) I never had one growing up so I may want to live through her!! haha!
Kristy says
Yes, it’s crazy how much they can charge for a BABY DOLL. I mean, seriously. But it is the cutest, and it’s a classic. That’s my justification. Lol. I’m excited for her to grow with it. She is definitely my girly girl and loves all things stuffed animals and baby dolls. It’s so fun! And yep, I’m definitely remembering how much fun all this doll stuff was. I never had one either (that I can remember), so I’m enjoying the perks of being this sweet girl’s mom. :)

Hi Kristy, I have the same lens and I love it! You know, another thing I got was the Professor Kobre’s Lightscoop it is awesome! I can’t tell you how much better my pictures look when I use it.

I keep hearing about the light scoop! I’m definitely going to have to look into that because our house has horrible lighting, as in there is hardly any natural light to be had. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been looking at a 50mm lens for my camera!!! I may have to take the plunge and buy one!!!
I soooo wish we had a target!! I love that store every single time I walk in! I could buy everything in it!!!

Does Target deliver to Canada? That would be the way to go. ;) And you are not alone in feeling like you could buy everything in it. We all have that problem. Lol.

Haha! You’ve never heard of that? One of my old co-workers used to call it that, so I can’t take the credit for it. ;) Fun though, huh? And yep, I wish I would have bought more when they were on sale because it’s the best!
