Happy Friday, my peeps! This week was pretty great. Here’s a recap: the little turned 21 months, I turned 33, I did a recap of my trip to Napa, and then I got sick again. Boo on sinuses acting a fool. If you know of any home remedies that work like a charm, feel free to pass on your wisdom. You’d be helping this sister out. Now, moving on to some fabulous things for my Five on Friday. Here’s a little bit of this and that for my current confessions…
ONE.
Excited about..
Decorating for Christmas! Last year we decorated our tree the week before Thanksgiving, because we’re normally gone for the holiday. I like the tradition we started so I think we’ll keep it. That means this weekend we’ll be pulling out the tree and all of our Christmas decorations, listening to some Christmas tunes, and getting in the spirit of the season. I can’t believe the holidays are already here. Eeek! Here are a couple of pictures from last year. Charlotte was only 9 and 10 months old during the holidays and was only half interested in the tree. This year, I’m sure, will be a whole new ball game. We also had a completely different set-up in our living room last year than we do now, so we are definitely going to have to get creative. Right now, our Christmas tree location is housed by Charlotte’s play-land and bookcase. Any suggestions on how to keep her away from the tree and what to do with her play area? This should be interesting.
TWO.
Thinking about…
This quote. I saw this on Hilary Rushford’s Instagram (she is a doll), and I fell in love with these words. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the GLORY of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in EVERYONE. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Amen to that! I could go on for days about these words, but I’ll just let you soak up all that goodness for now.
THREE.
Training for…
Okay, so I have been a total slacker in the half-marathon training department. I was running maybe two times a week and walking/jogging at least once a week, but then the time changed, I got sick then sick again, my baby was sick, my other baby was sick, and yada yada yada. Okay, enough with the excuses. Lucky for me, I just did a quick Google search and found an 8-week training program for the half. Lo and behold, that is exactly how many weeks I have until the race! It’s a sign. It’s a sign that I still have time to train and not be the last one to cross the finish line. I think I can manage this. Using this program, you only run three times a week and cross-train the other days. I think running around after a toddler all day, every day suffices as cross-training. Here’s the plan if you’re interested. If you don’t want to convert this chart from kilometers to miles, you can find almost the exact same program here.
I’ll be changing my running days to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. If you don’t want to convert this chart into kilometers, you can find almost the exact same program here.
FOUR.
Loving…
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair. Remember how I told you I was starting to get wrinkles? Well, I started using this just this week, and I’m already seeing results. It could all be in my head, but I’d like to think that this stuff really is working. If you want to try it out, you can order it from Amazon. I linked it for you. You’re welcome.
FIVE.
Proud of…
My grandpa. This week my Popo, Deacon Alonzo Calzada, is celebrating 20 years of service as a deacon in the Catholic church. I am so proud of him and his service. He is my role model, and he is where I get my passion for story-telling and for Jesus. His wisdom and love brightens the world, especially mine. He was featured in an article in one of the local newspapers back in June, and if you care to read it, you can find it here. His story and testimony is phenomenal, and I hope to share it on the blog one day. I love him to pieces. This picture is one of my very favorites of him. It was taken at our wedding.
And that’s a wrap. Next week, I’ll be starting my gift guides and some more sweet things, so I’m sure you won’t want to miss that. And if you just read all five of my random things today, thank you so much, sister! I just love each and every one of you, and I hope you have the most amazing weekend!
But before you go, what’s been going on with you? How’s life lately?
P.S. You can follow me on Instagram to see our everyday shenanigans. I love that place.
See where I’m linking up here.

I’m curious as to how Rae will do with the tree this year too.. last year she would steal all the bottom ones so I’m sure it’ll be no different this year :)
Kristy says
I just finished decorating, and I left the bottom pretty sparse. However, I’m sure it’ll get rearranged before I know it. :0 Lol. Gotta love these little girls!

First of all your jammies are ADORABLE. Two… I want to run a half marathon, preferably the Disney princess in February (2016) in Florida or the Tinkerbell half in May (2016) in CA… I think it’d be the perfect time for us to meet… just sayin’. ;) I’ll know more at my doctors appointment in December :)
Kristy says
Thanks, friend! I’m wearing them as I type. They’re some of my favorites. And yes, you will most definitely have to let me know if you sign up for the half in either of those places. That would be AWESOME!!! :)
Daisy @ Simplicity Relished says
Congratulations to your grandfather! How special is that! And as usual, you and your daughter are the cutest little set in blogland. Have a great weekend Kristy!

Thank you so much, Daisy! He is pretty special. :) And you are too kind. Hope you have a great and blessed weekend, sister!

Agree with Tawnya – adorable jammies!! :) I’m right there with you on the tree. We’ve decided to forgo the big tree this year and get a smaller one to put on a table. I know my boy, he’ll be on that tree like white on rice all day, every day!
Kristy says
Thanks, Chelsea! You know me and my jammies. I love them. Yeah, I may be a glutton for punishment. I had to wait until Charlotte went to bed to decorate, so we’ll see how long these tree decorations last. Lol.

My kids are all big enough but during some crazy hormonal period I agreed to a puppy and am wondering how he is going to respond to the tree. I am training for a 1/2 that is 3 weeks away and I am so ready to be D-O-N-E….the past two weeks it’s been rainy and cold and I’ve skipped too many runs.
Kristy says
Too cute! I remember the puppy stage, and he’ll either be really interested or not at all. I really don’t know why I signed up to run a half. I must really like to put myself through misery. I’m all about skipping some runs. We’ll see what happens. Good luck with the end of your training! :) Have a good weekend, Shelly!
