Happy Friday, everyone! This week has been one looong week. When you start out the week waking up to the biggest flood your city has seen in decades, you know you’re in for it. But let me backtrack a little bit. Let me recap my week for you for a little coffee date chit chat.
ONE.
Last weekend was a good one. We went to church, brunched, and then spontaneously, we ended up at Disney on Ice. We had bought front row tickets back in November to the Corpus show for this coming weekend, but we sold those since we didn’t want to drive three hours to get there. Since M drives so much for work now, driving again on a weekend just wasn’t in the cards for us. The Houston show wasn’t added to the lineup until well after we had purchased our original tickets, so long story short, we ended up looking to see what tickets were available for the Sunday show here in Houston, found some, bought them, and scooted ourselves into town about two hours after purchasing. We aren’t spontaneous people at all, so this was a big deal. I’m so glad we ended up going, because Charlotte absolutely loved the show! My dream is to take her Disney World one day. We’re waiting until she’s just a tad older, but I get excited just watching her excitement so you know we’ll be all about Disney World. If you’re on Snapchat, hopefully you were able to see her dancing around at the show. It was so fun asking her what her favorite parts were the next day. That girl has the best and sweetest giggles.
TWO.
18 Weeks. This is me right smack in the middle of my 18th week of pregnancy. I shared it on Instagram and Facebook already, but I wanted to elaborate a little. I’m up about 9 pounds now, and I really need to start watching what I eat. Way easier said than done, especially when cravings still haunt me. I hear that second pregnancies, you just feel bigger faster, and that has proved to be true for me. Even though I gained more weight by this point when I was pregnant with Charlotte, I just feel bigger now. I’m already starting to experience round ligament pain, but I’ve busted out my Snoogle for some added comfort when resting and sleeping. I’ve also busted out all the maternity clothes! Thankfully, one of my best friends let me borrow all of her summer maternity clothes, so I’m pretty good in that department. (Thanks, D!) I did have to order a few more pairs of shorts though. The highlight of this week in pregnancy has been feeling kicks and flutters. The kicks are really starting to get stronger, making it exciting and reminding me that all of this growing and aching is well worth it.
THREE.
I got quite a few questions about these two things after sharing them on Instagram, so I’ll go ahead and share the wealth.
First, the little cookie wafer you see on top of my coffee is called a Stroopwafel. When you set it on top of your hot coffee cup, it melts down just a little bit making the caramel ooey and gooey and delicious. It’s definitely a treat!
Second, a lot of you loved my bowls that you saw in our Trail Mix post. They were a Christmas gift, but they came from Anthropologie. They come in many different color palettes, and they are by far my favorite and most used bowls now. You can find them here.
FOUR.
The Great Houston flood. I probably could have dedicated a post to this entirely, but we’ve been living it this week enough. Sunday night, we knew rain was coming. It started to rain as soon as we had left Disney on Ice, but we just thought it was regular spring weather. The news had forecasted we’d have a week of rain, but there was no hype or suggestion that on Monday morning we would be waking up to a 500 year flood. Schools were canceled, people couldn’t get to work, and it was sheer craziness. When I was watching the news Monday morning during live coverage, I even saw a man being rescued from his flooded car by a reporter. You can see what I saw here.
Thankfully, our home and our neighborhood did not experience any of the flooding you might have seen on the news, but that doesn’t mean our neighbors not even five minutes down the street did not. Nope. Cypress, our suburb, was one of the hardest hit areas. We couldn’t drive more than five minutes without roads being closed from flooding, and there was no access to any highways because of it. I’ve lived here for 10 years and have seen a hurricane and a couple of tropical storms. But this? This has been the worst it’s ever been. I don’t ever remember schools being shut down for an entire week! Several people lost their lives, thousands lost their cars, and many more have had damage to their homes. However, through the storms, there has been no looting and no rioting. There are so many people offering help to others, and it’s absolutely heart warming. Houston is resilient, and we are praising the Lord we have sunshine in our forecast this weekend. Let the waters start to recede!
FIVE.
Survey says! Remember last week when I put up a survey, and many of you filled it out? Those of you who did are dolls, and I’m so thankful for your feedback. I’d love to go over what I’ve learned from your responses in a post next week, but I’ll leave the survey up for just a tad longer for those of you who might not have been able to fill it out and would like to still. You can find the survey in this post or here.
But I did want to point out one thing I’ve seen so far. Some of you responded that you would love to see a Q & A post, and I thought that was a great idea! I’ve never done one, so we’re going to open up the questions now. If you’ve ever wondered how I do something, or why I do something, or what my favorite color is, or just whatever, feel free to ask. You know I’m an open book! I created this form you can fill out, and you can fill it out as many times as you’d like. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
If you can’t view the question box for any reason, you can go to this link here to fill it out.
I’m also going to link my posts from this week in case you missed them. I’ve been a blogging machine!
- An Easy, Toddler-Friendly Picnic Lunch
- 33 Bible Verses for the Anxious Heart
- Kid-Approved Trail Mix: A Rainy Day Activity
And one more housekeeping note. If you’re an email subscriber, you probably have not been getting emails for my latest posts since I switched to Word Press. The glitch was fixed yesterday, and you should have received an email with all of the blog posts from April. Things should return to normal now.
I’m also slowly but surely catching up with comments. I’m so sorry my responses have been delayed! I promise you I read each and every one, and I wish I could respond to you as fast as you type them, but I’m only one person doing the best I can. Things seem to be simmering down for a bit (fingers crossed), so I should have some time to get back to each of you soon. Thank you so much for your patience. You all are the absolute best!
Have a wonderfully blessed weekend, friend! See you here next week.
