A Few Things…

First order of business: I’m on Houston Moms Blog today talking about the challenges some mamas go through when trying to dress the new mama body and how to overcome them. You can find that post here.

Now for a little update…
I know I’ve been briefly asking for prayers for my grandpa, Popo, lately, and I’m still asking that you continue to pray for him and my family. I’m staying vague because I’m not the family spokesperson. What I can say is that he is in the hospital, and we are hoping his health is restored. This weekend was a hard one. Whenever my family goes through a crisis, we rally together and are by each other’s side. It’s what we do, and this weekend was no different. 
With that being said, blogging has definitely taken a back seat. I’ve used it as sort of a distraction, but it’s getting harder and harder with my mind and heart with my family. I have a few blogging commitments that I have to carry on with, and they’ll be published (hopefully). But right now, everything is sort of up in the air. If I’m talking about mom style or mom fitness one minute and asking for prayers in the next, just humor me. Know that I’m trying to get through this difficult time the best I can while still trying to follow through with some obligations. 
I hope y’all had a beautiful weekend celebrating the moms in your life. If you’re a mama yourself, I hope you were shown just how much you are loved. I’ll leave you with a few pictures from the weekend.

Saturday, the hubs and Charlotte gave me the sweetest cards for Mother’s Day. I was then completely surprised with the most beautiful diamond cross. I had no idea I would be getting anything, much less something I’ve wanted for a very long time. What made it even more special was having it blessed by my Popo. As a deacon, giving blessings is one of his favorite things to do. I will treasure this necklace forever. 
My sister always knows how to make us laugh. Mr. Napkin Head, anyone? Laughter is always the best medicine.

My mommy. Charlotte’s Nana. One thing our weekend did not lack was LOVE. Love is always abundant. 

Thanks for hanging in there with me. And most of all, thank you for all the messages, texts, and sweet comments with your thoughts and prayers for my Popo and for my family. It means more than you know.

A Few Things…

Today is not the typical Five on Friday like I’ve done for the past several weeks. I had a different post in mind for today, but when I found out that the girls who host the link-up are giving Five on Friday a summer break, I thought, “Perfect. I can share a few things.”

First of all, I have some things brewing and stirring in my heart that are coming to light, and I’m almost ready to share them with you. All of this is partly due to the Bible study I’m doing by Beth Moore called Children of the Day. It’s a study of 1 and 2 Thessalonians, and it is amazing. (I first mentioned it here, and I even mentioned it on Wednesday. See? It’s a big deal.) I highly recommend you watch the videos she has with this study, because the words she shares are straight from God’s mouth and will flow right into your heart. It’s that good. If you’re in a stormy season, a season of change, or you’re just feeling stuck or blah, then this study may very well be for you. I’m only on Week 2, and I can’t wait for more. 
Next up for discussion is my friend Kari Kampakis. Kari and I become friends after I followed her writing page on Facebook; we have yet to meet in person but we have definitely met in spirit. (It’s amazing how this blog has led me to “meet” so many amazing women.) I started following her page after reading an article called “10 Truths Young Girls Should Know.” Her truths that she shares couldn’t be more on target. All 10 of them are definitely things I want Charlotte to know, and I most definitely will share these truths with my sweet girl as she grows. This fall, Kari’s first book will be published called 10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know, and I am so excited to read it. I am so honored that she asked me if I’d like an advance copy. Ever since I found Kari and her writing, I have read tons of her pieces, and each one speaks truth, honesty, and love. You really can’t get much better than that, folks. This week, Kari shared a new article called “Why Women Need Their Girlfriends.” This was such a great inspirational piece about how important our girlfriends are! She reminds us why it is so important to invest in our people, our girlfriends. Her last line in the article was this: 
I hope this story comes as a friendly reminder of why girlfriends matter in good times and bad, laughter and tears, and through the highs and lows that reveal who’s with us for the long haul, and who’s willing to share in our suffering so that one day, when we’re laughing again on the beach, there will be a history that makes the laughter sound richer and piques the curiosity of anyone in earshot. 
“Why Women Need Their Girlfriends“
Definitely read this sweet, beautiful article about friendships. I bet after reading you’ll want to reach out to your best girlfriends. I know I did to mine. And while you’re sharing the love, follow Kari and her writing, too. I know she will only continue to inspire. 
Lastly, it seems like everywhere I turn there is tragedy and heartache affecting so many of my friends and neighbors. Here at Seven Graces, one of my mottos is: “We’re in it together, sisters.” Because we are. Showing Christ’s love is something I want to do daily, and how else can we do that by extending our hand when one of our friends has fallen. Whether it be a prayer (or several), your time, your encouragement, or in some cases, a donation. Yesterday, one of my dear sorority sisters from college lost her home and everything in it to a horrible house fire. Thankfully by the grace of God, she made it out with all of her family and pets, but they lost every possession they own. Just a few months ago, she lost her mother to cancer. I can’t even imagine. A Go Fund Me account has been set up for the Buckner family to help them rebuild all that was lost. Here is the link if you feel you can help. Most importantly, lets help them rebuild their spirit by sending our prayers. 
To not leave you with such a heavy heart, here’s a picture of Charlotte and me. This little girl brings so much joy to my life, and I hope her smile will bring you one, too. If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, it’s not a new picture, but isn’t Charlotte the cutest? We were rooting for team USA during their soccer game yesterday, and we will continue to root for them.

I also just want to say a quick thank you to all of you who read Seven Graces and follow along. You all are the reason why I write and why I created this blog. I sincerely appreciate all of the love and prayers you have given me and my family. I look forward to doing this for a very long time, so long as it’s what God is calling me to do.

  1. It is amazing that you mentioned 1 Thessalonians because it was mention in Sunday School Class and I just happened to read 1 Thessalonians 5:16 during our choir rehearsal devotion. It is so important to edify and build each other up. Good points.
