Ever since I had Colin three months ago, it seems as if I have a whole new definition of busy. Now that the holidays are in full swing, life is even crazier. Taking care of myself has taken a back seat, but after becoming super stressed and overwhelmed, I quickly remembered that I must take care of myself in order to take care of my people. Being a mom who is constantly on-the-go means I must prioritize and that I have to stay on top of my own to-do-list, too.
We have to stop putting ourselves on the back-burner and really tune in to make sure our needs are met, too. Here are my tips to make sure we do just that.
5 Tips to Take Care of Yourself When You’re an On-The-Go Mom
ONE. Remember to eat.
This sounds so simple, but it’s one I often have a problem remembering. When I don’t eat, I can get super cranky. I usually skip breakfast, but with nursing, I must eat. Since I’m always pressed for time because of our never-ending busy schedule, I’ve been on the hunt for simple breakfasts and snacks.
The other day, we headed to HEB, and I found these LALA® Yogurt Smoothies, and they are the perfect solution to satisfying my hunger while I’m on-the-go. They have 5g of protein and 8g of whole grains. (Even Charlotte loves them.)
Smoothies are the perfect way to get some nutrients when you don’t have time for a sit-down meal, and these are the best. Our favorite has been the strawberry banana cereal.
They’re easy to throw in my bag and have on hand to drink when I’m running from place to place. They’re even the perfect solution for a snack when I’m nursing, too.
(I was so hungry after our quick trip to HEB that I opened one up immediately.)
TWO. Remember that your health matters.
Part of taking care of yourself is remembering to schedule those doctor appointments. I live with a chronic illness that I’ll have to monitor the rest of my life, hypothyroidism. If I fail to make my doctor’s appointments or to take my meds, I only hurt myself. So be sure to stay on top of your health by scheduling those routine visits to your doctor, dentist, and health care providers. Also, take your vitamins. You need all the energy you can get.
THREE. Drink water.
Becoming dehydrated can wreck havoc on you and your body. Make sure to drink at least 8 cups a day to save your sanity. Coffee is great for us busy moms, but water is what will really keep us going. I know I feel super sluggish when I don’t get enough.
FOUR. Use a calendar or schedule.
One thing that helps me out a ton is to plan my day the night before. This is crucial for my sanity. Usually, I feel like I’m scrambling if I don’t have a plan of action or know what is going on the next day. I have deadlines to meet, snacks to take to Charlotte’s school, play dates, dinners, errands to run, people to call, things to mail–I can only remember so much! Writing it down in my planner helps me stay organized and helps my failing mom memory. Going over my calendar of events the night before gives me a peace of mind as I prepare to take on the day ahead.
FIVE. Decompress at the end of the day.
And the last thing I do to take care of myself is decompress. Every night, I give myself some time to relax with my family with no distractions. I put away my phone and electronics and allow myself to unwind. It’s all for my well-being.
Whatever way you decompress is totally up to you; just be sure you do it. And while you’re relaxing, you may as well have a smoothie, too.

Great tips! I’m a planner freak, except when I’m not. Haha! I rely on my planner really heavily for a couple of months and then it seems like I need a planner break. :)
Nourishing our bodies is so important for mommas! Not only does it keep the hangry 😠 away, it can also help keep Postpartum Mood Disorders at bay, helps us to keep up milk supply for hungry babes, and helps to build up nutrient stores that are lost during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum healing process.
Take care of yourself momma!

The calendar / daily schedule is a LIFESAVER for me. I wouldn’t get a thing done or remember anything important if I didn’t write it down!
