This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Diaper Genie® but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #PlaytexEssentials http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV
When I first became pregnant and was in New Mama 101 mode, I researched every baby must-have for my registry and nursery. After becoming a mom, I quickly learned there are some things you can live without and there are some things that you truly can’t live without. For instance, you can live without a wipe warmer, but you absolutely cannot live without a Diaper Genie. After two and a half years, there are five things that have kept my babe’s nursery cute and functional, making it my most favorite room in our home. These are the items I truly couldn’t live without.
Besides the traditional sleeping quarters of a crib for your nursery, there are five things that will make your life easier in your baby’s nursery.
1. STORAGE BINS
We have a ton of different sized storage bins, and I am so thankful for all of them. They store toys, diapers, wipes, laundry, first aid items, socks, bows, and any other thing that needs a space. And hello, color coordinated liners. Not only are they cute, they’re an organizational necessity.
I also love them for books, because you know books are my jam.
2. A GLIDER/ROCKER
Oh, the stories I could tell you about all the beautiful moments I’ve sat in this chair, and even the not so beautiful moments when I wept like a baby because my baby was crying uncontrollably and not sleeping when she was seven weeks old. This glider (similar) has soothed my soul and my sweet Charlotte’s, and her nursery just wouldn’t be the same without it.
Quick story about the closet right behind the glider: Charlotte’s room is on the smaller side of room sizes. In order to create more space, we took off the closet doors to have easier access to the shelving inside the closet. To jazz it up, we put a cute curtain rod with the fanciest of curtains to frame the closet nicely. It definitely makes the nursery feel cozy, cute, and elegant, but most importantly, practical. Now we store more toys in there too.
3. A LAMP
When putting my little bundle to sleep, I have always turned off the lights and turned on the lamp. At first I kept it on and rocked her until she fell asleep. These days I turn it on, and we read books together, and I sing her a song before putting her down for bed at night. Turning off the lamp is the last thing I do. It’s a nightly routine she knows and loves as much as I do. (Something else I could have added to this list is a sound machine. That is definitely part of our nap time routine and bed time routine, and it’s also a must!)
4. A CHANGING TABLE
I honestly don’t know what I would do without this thing. It’s the hub of the nursery. Charlotte is still not potty trained, so this beauty has been loved on almost as much as her crib. We’ve used this since day one, and I couldn’t live without it. Even if it’s just a changing pad on top of a dresser, you will not regret having a changing table, no matter what it looks like.
Specifically, we have the Diaper Genie Elite. It was on my baby registry and was given to me as a gift at one of my baby showers; I was beyond thrilled to receive it. Some people don’t like the thought of dirty diapers left in the nursery, but this little contraption holds in the stink. It’s definitely an item I do not know what I would do without.
The inside of the Diaper Genie is lined with a thick blue plastic, and it’s called the Diaper Genie refill. And refill you shall. I buy the two-pack from Target (my second home), and I always have a refill on standby.
I just learned about the Diaper Genie “Mommy Time” Rewards Program, and I’m super excited to start racking up the points! Here’s how it works:
- Buy: Purchase participating Diaper Genie products.
- Snap: Take a photo of your store receipt using your mobile phone or upload a photo of your receipt or baby registry from your desktop and create your own Mommy Time Rewards profile at www.MommyTimeRewards.com.
- Redeem: Log in to your Mommy Time Rewards account to redeem your points for eGift card rewards. You can reward yourself with your favorite products from participating retailers like Sephora and Zappos (favorites for sure!), or eGift cards for massages, dining, and more.
And if you’re a veteran mama who already uses Diaper Genie products, how excited are you to be rewarded for it now?
Be sure to take advantage of the Diaper Genie “Mommy Time” Rewards Program! Earn points to use towards great rewards for yourself every time you buy or register for Diaper Genie products.
And those are the things I can’t live without in my sweet baby’s (now toddler’s) nursery. I’m milking the nursery days for as long as I can. What could you not live without?
Let’s keep in touch, shall we?

Her nursery is so precious :) And yep, we’ve gotten a solid almost 3 years and 8 months out of our diaper genie. Can’t live without it.
Kristy says
Thanks, Meg! I don’t think I ever want to potty train or turn her crib into a toddler bed. I’ll just keep her little forever. Lol. And for sure. I don’t know what we’d do without the Diaper Genie. :)
Julie says
LOVE LOVE LOVE her nursery! It’s so perfectly Charlotte!
Kristy says
Thanks, Julie! :) It most certainly is. It’s crazy how before she was even born, it was already tailored exactly to her personality. Have a good week, girlfriend!
Leslie DeJarnette says
You have a beautiful nursery. What a blessed baby to have such a creative mama!
Kristy says
Thanks so much, Leslie! I had a blast decorating her nursery before she was born, and I’m very thankful for all that’s in it. :) Have a great week!

Charlotte’s nursery is so gorgeous!! You did such an amazing job decorating! I love every detail – especially the curtains in place of the closet doors!
Kristy says
Thanks, Ailee! It was such a fun project. The curtains are a favorite for sure. I don’t know if I’ll want to change it to a toddler bed/room, but I guess I’ll have to let her grow up. ;)

We have the same changing table and it’s my favorite thing in the nursery! And I’m super excited about these diaper genie rewards!!!
Kristy says
Woohoo for rewards on anything! :) I’m glad I found out about them too.
Cami Hall says
That is THE cutest changing table I have ever seen! I love that you have the shelves above to take advantage of vertical storage! Oh and I so wish I had a diaper genie… next baby we’re totally getting one!
Kristy says
Thank you! Yes, the shelves are perfect. The Diaper Genie has definitely saved us from lots of stink, too. We’ll definitely get a new one for our next baby.
Shelby says
Where did you get the changing table unit? I love it and that would be perfect for my little ones nursery!
Kristy says
It is from Pottery Barn Kids, and I believe it’s the Madison Changing Table unit. It was a few years ago, so I’m not sure if it’s still available. I did a blog post on her nursery, so if you search in my search bar, I think I might have directly linked it in that post. Hope that helps!

I love that lamb rocking chair! I’m currently planning a nursery for my own Charlotte. Would you mind sharing where it came from?
Kristy says
Congrats on your Charlotte’s upcoming arrival! I’m sure she’ll be the sweetest. The rocking lamb is from Pottery Barn Kids. :)
