Over the last few months, it’s no secret that life has been a little rocky for me (you can read more here). There have been tons of things I’ve found joy in and there have been plenty of blessings, but I would be lying if I said I hadn’t been filled with anxiety and stress. Through this rough patch, I’ve asked you to share your favorite Bible verses with me to ease the soul, and your favorites have now become my favorites. I’ve also found many great verses by reading daily devotionals and opening the Bible itself. And you know what? I’m okay. I know without a doubt that my faith is only being strengthened and that good times are ahead. If you’re going through a period of life where you find yourself anxious (whether it be from a loss, an illness, or a fear of the unknown), I hope these thirty-three Bible verses calm you and assure you that you are not alone. Praying and seeking Him will never steer us wrong.
Note: I’ve placed these verses in the traditional order they are seen in the Bible so that you can mark them easily if you’d like.
Exodus 14:14 (NIV) // The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Joshua 1:9 (NIV) // “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Psalm 9:10 (ESV) // And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Psalm 34:4 (NIV) // I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:18-19 (NIV) // The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.
Psalm 46:1 (NIV) // God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalm 116:1-2 (NIV) // I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.
Psalm 120:1 (NIV) // I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.
Psalm 121: 7 (NIV) // The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life.
Proverbs 3:5 (NIV) // Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) // But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) // So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) // See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 55:9 (NIV) // “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Jonah 2:2 (NIV) // In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
Matthew 6:34 (NIV) // Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 7:7 (ESV) // Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 19:26 (NIV) // Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Luke 1:37 (ESV)// For nothing will be impossible with God.
Luke 1:45 (NIV) // Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!
Luke 12:25-26 (NIV) // Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
John 14:27 (NIV) // Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 15:4-5 (NIV) // Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 20: 29 (NIV) // Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Romans 5:3-5 (ESV) // Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV) // For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Ephesians 6:11 (NIV) // Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) // Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Jeremiah 29: 11-13 (NIV) // For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV) // Pray without ceasing.
2 Timothy 4:17 (NIV) // But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV) // Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
James 1: 2-4 (NIV) // Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Whatever you’re going through, know that God will see you through. We are not in control, but know that the One who is will provide all that you need. He will not fail you. You need only believe.

I, unfortunately, am genetically predisposed to having an anxious heart. Worried weigh heavily on me and then I have the accompanying guilt from worrying because hey, I’m Christian! I should be putting my trust in HIM!
I loved this and I’m pinning to my Deliberate FAITH board.
Thanks so much for sharing.
xoxo

I am too, Jennifer! I used to be really good though at letting things go and giving them over to Him, but I’ve been pretty rusty lately. I think struggles just put me back on track. ;) Thanks for pinning it to your board! Xoxo
