Every day, I wake up a little bit earlier than Charlotte, and I wait for her to wake up. I never used to be a morning person, but now I really enjoy our time together in the sweet morning light. As soon as my love bug wakes up, she asks for her cereal. Lately she has wanted to do three things: eat her Honey Nut Cheerios, watch videos (especially the trailer for The Secret Life of Pets), and snuggle. I love all of these things! Since it’s summertime, we have definitely been enjoying the slower pace of the mornings.
Once I started to think about it, I wanted to share three simple ways you can bond with your child in the morning, too.
1. Wake up with a smile.
Charlotte knows that when she wakes, she has to call out for me to come and get her from her room. As soon as I open her door, I greet her with a huge smile, and I’m greeted with the same thing. She’s so excited in the mornings (most days), so it puts both of us in a good mood. Setting the tone with a smile makes the day a little bit brighter. Even if you don’t open the door for your child because they’re old enough to leave the room when they wake, I’m sure as soon as your child sees your smile, it starts the day off right.
2. Eat breakfast together.
Every morning, whether we have breakfast in bed or breakfast at the table, we always sit down together to eat. Having meals as a family and one-on-one is so important in our house.
Our favorite breakfast lately has been Honey Nut Cheerios, and what easier breakfast is there than that! I think we love it so much because it’s made with real honey and whole-grain oats. We also love the Multi-grain Cheerios and regular Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Trix, too, but Honey Nut Cheerios seems to be our jam as of late. All of these cereals are also gluten-free, in case you didn’t know.
I’m so glad we share the same enthusiasm for cereal!
3. Plan an activity that you know you’ll both enjoy.
At breakfast time or after breakfast, I try to have a little something planned for us to do together before we set out for errands or activities for the day. It doesn’t have to be big and even snuggles count!
The other day it was two things for us: opening up the prize from the Honey Nut Cheerios box and then watching the trailer for The Secret Life of Pets.
Charlotte found Gidget, one of the sassy characters in the new movie The Secret Life of Pets, and she quickly has fallen in love with her. I think we’ll be buying these specially marked boxes of cereal throughout the month of July, because who doesn’t love completing a collection? We cannot wait to go see the movie when it comes out July 8, 2016!
After Charlotte found her prize, we started watching the trailers. This little girl laughs hysterically, so I can’t wait to see her reaction when we see the movie in full. It’s so fun to watch these with her.
You could even go to The Secret Life of Pets website and create your own Pet Moji.
Charlotte cannot stop talking about this movie! And I’m excited for it, too.
You can take a peek into our morning and listen to Charlotte talk all about her new friend Gidget and laugh hysterically at one of the trailers. Enjoy!
And for those who love deals, on Friday, July 1, 2016, you can click here for a coupon when you purchase Honey Nut Cheerios, Multi-grain Cheerios, or regular Cheerios. Be sure and collect all of those prizes from the specially marked boxes!
Have a great day, friend, and enjoy those mornings!

Yay for loving the mornings! Seriously, I used to be such a night owl, but it’s crazy how kids can change you. Lol. :) Hope y’all are having a great week, friend!

Charlotte is so cute in the video! So fun. I wish I were more of a morning person because I usually throw the Cheerios at my kids and stare blankly LOL

Thanks girl! I’m usually not “awake” until at least 9 or 10. That’s usually when I feed ourselves breakfast, too. Lol. Hope you’re still having a blast in Europe!

Aria loves her honey nut cheerios! And she got snowball. Every time she eats her cereal she makes me quiz her on all the names on the back of the box. She can’t seem to remember Max ever but the rest she has down now, can’t wait to see the movie too!

Haha, that’s too cute! Have y’all seen the movie yet? It was really funny from what I could tell. We were up about a million times to go potty. Lol.

Awww, lovely suggestions. I love eating breakfast with the girls. We often finish our breakfast time off with a snuggle and a storybook. It’s a delightful way to start the day.
Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
Wishing you a lovely weekend.
