Hello beautiful mamas! It’s another Monday dedicated to the New Mama 101 series. But today is a little different because the full post is over at The Military Wife and Mom where I’m guest posting. It’s all about getting your baby to sleep through the night and getting them to learn how to sleep and stay asleep all on their own using the methods provided by the book The Sleep Easy Solution: The Exhausted Parent’s Guide to Getting Your Child to Sleep from Birth to Age 5. Ever since going through this sleep training process, Charlotte has averaged twelve hours of sleep a night, not even joking. So I hope if you’re looking for some relief in the baby sleep department that this will help you. Here’s an excerpt of the full post.
When I became a mom, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I had read every article I thought I could read, but that’s just not enough. You have to live through it, trenches and all. Being sleep deprived can make anyone go crazy. Really. When my little babe was nine weeks old, she finally slept a stretch of seven hours during the night, and I thought I heard the angels sing. It was glorious. I followed these tips to get her to stay on a loose schedule to ensure that we would continue the sleeping through the night pattern. It worked. But then the four-month sleep regression hit, and I felt like we were back at square one. Being a former English teacher, I did what I knew best. I researched. And thanks to one of my mommy friends, I found the best book about baby’s sleep: The Sleep Easy Solution: The Exhausted Parent’s Guide to Getting Your Child to Sleep from Birth to Age 5. This book is brilliant. It breaks down the facts about babies’ sleep and explains how to train your baby to sleep through the night, 10 hours or more. I had nothing to lose but more sleep, so I gave it a shot. Good sleep is vital for not only your baby’s health, but for your health as well. In a nutshell, here’s how you can sleep train your baby using The SleepEasy Solution’s methods.

Kristy,
I completely adore your blog, and I am so thankful you were wiling to share your story. There are a lot of tired parents out there looking for answers. They are looking for someone to say your aren’t a bad parent for wanting to sleep. They are looking for someone to say you aren’t a bad parent for wanting your kid to sleep too! You did a bang up job on that post, friend. And I’m confident if we give it enough time it’s going to really take off. Pinterest takes time, but slow and steady is the way to go, right? Thank you so much for all of your incredibly hard work.

We are thinking of starting the Sleep Easy Solution when my little man is 6 months in a couple weeks, when we get back from vacation! I’m super nervous about dropping the pacifier, since he always uses that to fall asleep. How did that go? Was your baby very attached? Gosh, I’m nervous but so ready for some sleep!

Eeek! I’m so sorry I haven’t replied sooner. It was actually not as bad as I thought. Of course she cried, but the book coached me through what to do.
I was getting up two to three times a night to reinsert her paci when she would spit it out and then cry because she wanted it back. Not giving it to her during the sleep training was the best thing we ever did! She was attached only from about 4 weeks old to 5 months old. She only used it to sleep. But once she was sleep trained, she never wanted it again. She did find her fingers though, and now sucks them all the time. I’m pretty sure we’ll have orthodontic work in our future. :/
Let me know if you have any more questions. If you’ve already tried sleep training, let me know how it went. :) I’d love to hear about it!
