This past weekend was quite grand. Even though our main squeeze was out of the country enjoying the sights of Scotland, we were down by the bay enjoying the salty air. That’s right. We packed up everything but the kitchen sink and went to my lovely hometown of Port Lavaca, Texas. Growing up in a small town definitely had it’s cons, but it definitely has its pros, too. It’s part of who I am, and I’ll always love it. I love the community. I love the people. I love the water. I love the food. And most of all, I love that it holds most of my family.

Friday, when we arrived, we had lunch with my mom at one of my favorite little eateries, and afterward, we picked up a Sandcrab spirit t-shirt for Charlotte. We then went to my mom’s work and introduced Charlotte to some of her Nana’s friends. Char is a ham for sure.
We let my mom go back to work, and Charlotte went down for a much needed nap. After she woke up, we went to meet the newest member of our family, my cousin’s first son. It was such a blessing to see him.
That night, we went to the opening home game for our fearless Sandcrab football team. Friday Night Lights, Calhoun football, one in the same. I went to school and graduated from Calhoun High School and taught there my first two years of teaching, so I’m a loyal fan. The Sandcrabs, until about 7 years ago, used to be a not so swell football team, but things have turned around for them and the town is now football crazy. It was so much fun to take Charlotte to her first game. Now that she’s older, it’s a little easier to extend her bedtime every now and then to let her experience some fun things. She loved the excitement! She cheered, clapped, hollered, and worked up a sweat cheering for the home team. It was too cute to watch.

Little Miss preferred to sit and stand in the aisle. That’s usually a no-no for adults, but for sweet little babies like Charlotte, they made an exception, I’m sure. Thank goodness my family has season tickets that are aisle seats. I don’t think we would have lasted as long as we did without them.
We stayed until half time because I wanted to be sure that she saw the awesome drill team. She loves dancing and listening to music, and I wanted her to see what her mommy used to do on Friday nights way back when. I was a drill team girl, a Sandette to be exact. And I’m so glad we got to see the half time show. Charlotte loved every minute, and so did I.
Saturday, we took Little Miss to the Flip Flop Festival. I know. You’re probably thinking, “What in the world?” Flip Flop Festival is held at the bay front with bands playing, food cooking, a mini-carnival going, and pop-up shops selling, all celebrating the Labor Day holiday.
Charlotte was able to run around, and we even took her on her very first ride. She was a champ. She didn’t cry or flinch once. Such a big girl she is these days. She smiled and had a blast on that little airplane ride. Too much cuteness for me to handle.
The cuteness did not stop there, folks. As if she hadn’t had her fill of football fanatic craziness, my aunt dressed her up in a UT cheerleading outfit to kick off the college football season, too. The hubs graduated from UT, so Charlotte will be a Longhorn fan whether she likes it or not. It’s just a household rule.
Sunday was a laid back day watching Downton Abbey, and then we made the spontaneous decision to go to one of our favorite seafood restaurants before we left. I swear I gain five pounds every time we go to Port Lavaca.
The weekend was such a fun time. It seems like the older Charlotte gets, the more fun there is to be had. I was even able to spend time with some dear friends while there since Charlotte has about a million babysitters. We left with full hearts and lots of new memories.
One last picture though: We couldn’t leave without Charlotte taking a picture with her great-grandparents, my Momo and Popo.
So that was our weekend in a nutshell. How was yours?

What a fun weekend!! Port Lavaca is pretty! I'm from Corpus (well, born there and lived there til I was 5 and then went back for college at TAMUCC) and I remember my dad had a friend in Port Lavaca that we would visit. I miss South Texas a lot!!
kristyvmoreno@gmail.com says
It was for sure! :) Yeah, I'm pretty partial to it. I didn't appreciate nearly as much as I should have growing up, but now I love going back to visit. The coast is so soothing to soul. At least we aren't too far from Galveston. Lol. Hope you and your new family of four are doing just fabulous!

Thank you! My aunt always knows how to doll her up in the right team gear. ;) The sunset was beautiful! My mom is such a great photographer. She has a real appreciation for sunrises and sunsets. I guess that's where I get it from. Have a good one, Elise!
