1. Talk positively to yourself.
You were designed to do this. You are beautiful. You can make it through. You are good enough. If you’re not saying these things to yourself on the regular, let me tell you, you don’t know what you’re missing. When I find myself in a hard spot, I speak positive thoughts to myself, and my attitude tends to shift. Words are powerful. Speak praises to yourself, girlfriend. A positive attitude really can brighten your world.
I saw this from Jessica Vaughn’s Facebook page the other day and loved it. Couldn’t agree more. |
2. Rely on your people.
Keep your people close. Whether that be via text, email, phone call, or in person, know who these people are for you and don’t be afraid to reach out. I am very blessed to have a handful of people I rely on to help see me through the best of times and the worst of times. I promise they are ready and waiting for you when you need them.
3. Trust your mama instinct.
When I first became a mama, I was so insecure. I think it’s a growing process for sure. But one thing I learned very quickly is to trust my maternal instinct. It’s definitely one blessing of an intuition, and when you tune into it and don’t ignore it, it can be a game changer. Know that you are doing the very best for you and your baby. That is all that matters.
4. Dress up and show up.
I know this isn’t always an easy task, especially for us SAHM types. But you know what? I find that when I put on a presentable outfit, wear a little make up, and look as good as it’s going to get, I feel my best. Once I am ready to conquer the day, I show up and am ready for all of life’s crazy adventures.

5. Keep yourself healthy.
As a mama, I think we have a built-in steel immune system most days, but like life, you never know what is going to hit you. It’s so important to keep up with our health. I try and eat healthy on most days, and I try to exercise when I can. I also see my doctor regularly to make sure everything is working as it should. Simple to say, but it’s so important that we stay on top of our own to-do list so that we can manage everyone else’s, too.
6. Find a hobby.
It can be so easy to lose yourself in this best job ever of being a mom, but don’t. You might not be who you were before you had your most amazing family, and that’s perfectly normal and wonderful. Love the new you. Love the things you do. I have found that running and blogging are my two favorite hobbies that make me feel good about myself. They make me happy and are ways I rejuvenate my soul. You need that as a mama. Whatever recharges your batteries, make it happen.
7. Give yourself some grace.
You’re going to mess up. It’s inevitable. I mess up all the time. But when things go wrong and you just want to cry, let it go and give yourself some grace. It’s not the end of the world. Because everything turns out all right in the end, and if it’s not all right, then know it’s not the end.

Kris, this is great encouragement for moms! I really like how you share the importance of dress up and show up. I try to take care of myself everyday. I make time, you know? Because I'm a better mom when I feel better about myself. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day!

Thanks, Lauren! :) I really do notice a huge difference when I dress up for the day (not super dressy, just some jeans and a t-shirt suffices) with makeup than when I don't. It's amazing what it does for my confidence. Hope you're off to a fabulous week!

I love this, Kris! All such great advice that I think most of us moms need to hear weekly, if not daily! I especially love the ones about remembering to take care of YOU and also trusting yourself. Those two things alone help me so much because whenever I lack in one of those, I notice it big time. I feel down and depressed. So thank you for these awesome reminders!

Thanks, Jessica! I know I do, too. I always need to take my own advice. Lol. Like right now, I'm putting off a doctor's visit, but I must make time for myself to get it down. And trusting yourself? Yeah, that is huge and something I struggle with but have gotten much better at with age. ;)

Such great advice :) Coming from someone who isn't a Mumma yet, I love reading these things so I can make sure I be the best Mother I can when the time comes

This is wonderful, girlie!!! I was nodding my head at each one – especially #4 because it's so easy to fall into the yoga pant & bun thing. I'm guilty of it on more days than not. Pretty sure I would feel better if I put a little more effort into it — and so would my husband ;) ha. But #7? That one is CRITICAL. I would also add one: know that in almost every case, we will have a chance to redeem ourselves. There's always another moment where we can try again and learn from the past. Some days I'm just so grateful that it's nighttime because I know I will most likely have another shot at this parenting gig the next day :)

Meagan, that means so much coming from you! And girl, I tell you what, I succumb to the pony tail/workout clothes trap all too often, but I really do feel better when I have makeup on and freshen up a bit more. ;) Number 7 is my favorite. If it weren't for Jesus and His grace, I would be one sad, miserable mess. And you are so right. I love what you've added. Each day we get another chance to do it all over again, and hopefully with some wisdom from the day's past. Love to you, girlfriend!

These tips are spot on, especially the part about having a hobby! So many moms lose themselves in their children and forget that they are a person, too. I try to take care of myself, too, since I can't care for others unless I am doing well. Thanks so much for sharing at the Saturday Soiree Blog Party! I always love to see what you post!
kristyvmoreno@gmail.com says
Thanks, Sarah! That means so much! I try which is the best any of us can do. ;)

Wonderful tips! I especially love the one about dressing up and showing up. It's amazing how much better I feel when I trade my t-shirt and sweat pants for jeans and a nice top. Such a simple change, and yet so powerful!
