This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for plenty of things. I’m thankful for my husband, my family, the love that we share, and for all of God’s blessings. I’m thankful for the little girl in my life that made me a mother. She teaches me more about life every single day and teaches me more about Christ’s love than I ever even knew was fathomable. But this year, I’m also thankful for a lot of things that most people dread. I’m thankful for…
1. Dirty dishes…because it means I have eaten and fed my family.
2. Dirty diapers…because it tells me my baby’s organs are working just fine (most of the time).
3. Dirty floors…because it reminds me that those floors are connected to walls, walls that give me shelter and remind me that I have a roof over my head. (Dirty floors also remind me that I have a growing toddler who knows how to make a mess.)
4. Loads of laundry to wash…because it tells me I have plenty of clothes to cover my body and my family’s, keeping us dry and warm.
5. An overflowing trashcan…because it tells me my family has more than enough.
6. A disorganized pantry…see number 5.
7. A dirty bathroom…because it reminds me that we have plumbing and water. (It also reminds me I have neglected my cleaning duties because I’ve chosen to be a mom first instead of a maid.)
8. A messy living room…because it reminds me I have a growing, thriving daughter who loves to play.
9. A dirty car...because it reminds me that I have transportation to get the family and me to the places we need to go.
10. Heartache…the chronic illness that I deal with, the parents’ divorce that I’m still dealing with years later, the family member that was taken too soon…because it reminds me that I am not in control. I am thankful for these things because they have made me lean on my faith like no other. They’ve also humbled my heart and have reminded me that God always takes care of the broken-hearted.
It’s all about perspective, isn’t it? I’m thankful for all of these things and then some. Be thankful always, not just a designated day once a year. So, what are you thankful for?

Love this! Life is messy and beautifully imperfect, isn’t it? It really is the simple things in life—like dirty dishes and laundry–that remind us all how incredibly good we have it.
Have a great Thanksgiving!

I love this, Kristy! The dishes and laundry reminds me of some poems I’ve found on Pinterest that allude to the same thing: “Thank God for dirty dishes …” I’m thankful for all the things you mentioned and my health. Although I have several issues due to a car wreck years ago, I can still walk and run, but I have friends that can’t due to accidents or being born that way. I am legally blind, but I can see with the help of contacts. Even though my body might feel a bit run down, I am so thankful for what God has given me.
Kristy says
Thanks, Erin! And Amen to that! I try to see the grace and lessons that God gives me in every aspect of my life. Sometimes I need to change my perspective on things, and then I realize how truly blessed I am. I can’t help but think of Laura Story’s song, Blessings, when thinking of choosing to see the positives in the negatives. ;)

So very true! All about perspective! I love this post. It’s so easy to get bogged down with life, but when you have an optimistic attitude, it changes everything. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!

Thanks, Chelsea! I haven’t always been an optimist, but life sure has been better ever since I changed my attitude. I think it just comes with age. ;) Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I love this perspective Kristy! Life isn’t always roses and rainbows, but we have so much to be thankful in our daily lives that we sometimes take for granted. Great post girl!

Thanks, Tiffany! There are times when I stop throughout my day when I look at all that has to be done, and I realize I have it pretty good. Mess and all. ;)

This is so lovely! We often don’t think about how great we have it, but you really hit all the good points about some of the things we may consider negative.
Kristy says
Oh, thank you so much Julie! I do try to always find the silver lining in things. It took some work to get to that attitude, but I’m happy to have found it. :)

such a great reminder, thank you. It gets so so easy to forget our blessings and only see our troubles. Especially today, I needed that reminder.
