Do you ever ask your kid, “How was your day?” when you see them after school and get the one liner, “Good.” Me too! I am so thankful for our awesome mama community, because when I polled our Grace Droppers, you all had the best ideas of how to really get the conversation going after school. Pop open a Sparkling Ice + Caffeine – Black Raspberry, make some fizzy Sparkling Ice – Black Raspberry popsicles and get to talking!
So first, let’s set the scene. It’s a weekday, 4:30 p.m., and your tired little just got home from school with either a huge smile or huge frown on his or her face. Either way, it’s time to decompress. It’s time to talk.
One thing I love to do is have a snack or two waiting, because dinner for us usually isn’t until around 6 p.m., and sister bear comes home hungry and thirsty.
This is also my time to refuel, because we still have the longest hours of our day in front of us before bedtime.
Enter a new + easy snack to whip up for your littles (and yourself), along with some of the very best conversation starters to date.
FIZZY SPARLKING ICE – BLACK RASPBERRY POPSICLES
You are going to love this one! Only two ingredients are needed for this: a bottle of Sparkling Ice – Black Raspberry & fresh raspberries. So easy.
Grab some popsicle molds and put about 4-5 rinsed raspberries into the mold. Fill with Sparkling Ice – Black Raspberry. This flavor is so good, and it goes so well with the fresh fruit. ;) Put a little sparkle into your afternoon conversations.
Sparkling Ice has natural flavors, vitamins and antioxidants, and zero sugar. Not bad for water, huh? It comes with all the fun of a delicious sparkling beverage without the added sugar!
Not only is Sparkling Ice – Black Raspberry a favorite for kids, they also have a caffeinated version for mom and dad to put a little more pep in your step during this back-to-school season. Win-win!
CONVERSATION STARTERS
One of my very favorite suggestions, brought to you by my counselor bestie Kim (@alwaysanewday), was this: Instead of asking questions, prompt your child to tell you about specific things. Instead of “how was your day” start with “tell me…” Here are 10 of my favorite conversation starters.
1. Tell me about your favorite part of the day.
2. Tell me who you sat by at lunch or played with on the playground.
3. Tell me about someone who was kind to you today.
4. Tell me about a time you were kind today.
5. Tell me something that made you so proud today.
6. Tell me about something that made you smile or laugh.
7. Tell me about something new you learned.
8. Tell me about something that made you frustrated or mad.
9. Tell me about the book you read today.
10. Tell me about what you’re excited for tomorrow.
Use these as a starting point. Change things up. But by all means, save to your phone and reference back to these to get the conversations going. Most of our littles LOVE to talk; we just need to know the right phrases to get the information we are looking for out of them.
Enjoy these conversation starters and these drinks and popsicles! I hope this back to school season is such a good one!
